Richard Design Services, Inc. is Hiring a Controls Designer (Levels II and III) Near Houston, TX

Richard Design Services (RDS) is currently seeking experienced Level II & III Controls Designers.
Position Summary:
We are seeking skilled and motivated Mid-Level / Senior-Level Controls Designers to be part of our team at our Houston Westchase office. The position will report to our Houston Office General Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of a wide range of projects (Front End Studies, Front End Engineering Development and Detailed Engineering).
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate design actions to ensure project meets client expectations.
  • Development of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and associated documents in conjunction with process engineers
  • Coordination with discipline engineers and designers with respect to specifications, metallurgy, instrument types, controls hardware, etc. Incorporating the feedback in the design.
  • Experienced with field design activities including but not limited to conducting field evaluations and surveys, as-built of existing conditions, layout of controls hardware, instrument installations, etc.
  • Experienced in development of Material Take-Offs for estimating purposes. As well as to support requisitioning of bulks.
  • Familiar with controls hardware architecture alternatives
  • Skilled in the development of controls deliverables, including but not limited to controls plans and details as follows: system architecture plans, instrument installation plans and details, marshalling/junction box/control panel/ fiber panel layout plans and details, wiring plans, loop drawings, demolition and construction packages, control room layouts, etc. Utilizing 2D modeling and 3D modeling platforms.
  • May supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small staff of engineers.
  • Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review.
  • Coordination and Interfacing with engineering and design disciplines in the development of projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum years of Project Management experience:
Controls Designer II - 5 years
Controls Designer III - 10 years
  • Associate Degree of Technical Training
  • Familiarity with industry codes and practices
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word and Excel)
  • Skilled in 2D design (AutoCAD)
  • Skilled in 3D Design (Cadworks)
  • Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal, and Written)
  • Work well in a Team environment
  • Judgment and Decision Making
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Leadership skills
Work Environment:
  • This position primarily is performed from RICHARD's office located in Houston, TX, but may be posted temporarily on project sites, when required. Field site visits may be required regularly. The work will mostly take place in an office setting, and the employee will need to communicate with others in person, over the phone, and through email. The employee should be physically able to carry out the required tasks. They may need to visit Client facilities, so it's important that the employee is in good physical health in order to travel, conduct field assessments, attend meetings at various locations, and perform other duties as required.
