Rhode Island School for the Deaf is Hiring an Individual Behavior Specialist ( Rhode Island School for the Deaf) Near Providence, RI

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:To provide specialized support in an educational setting to deaf and hard of hearing students whomay have learning challenges in physical, cognitive, and/or social-emotional domains.Assists other professionals with data collection, occasional student crisis intervention, andplanning for support and proactive classroom management. Works with staff school-wide onbehalf of the student to develop methods to support self-regulation and success in the classroom. DAILY EXPECTATIONS:• Works directly with student throughout school day to support and encourage academic and social success• Informs the teacher of special needs that arise and in the identification of social/ behavioral conerns with individual students• Participates with student data collection, documentation, and interpretation.• Assists with the collaborative development of behavioral programming for students.• Helps with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment• Assists student, as needed, with personal needs that may include feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene• May be delegated certain health care monitoring responsibilities by the school nurse.• Escorts and monitors student safely to and from classroom and various activities, lunch, therapies, arrival, dismissal, etc.• Consistently follows behavior management plan designed for individual students under the direction of the Special Education Administrator, Teacher or Counselor• Maintains the confidentiality of students, staff, and families. Refrains from gossip.• Provides consistent behavioral support and aids in the inclusion and management of students• Will be trained in Safety Care Positive Behavioral Safety approaches
