Primary Job Function: 

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Assistant Principal, under the direction of the Principal, serves as an educational leader and assists the Principal in the planning, coordination, and directing of activities and programs related to the administration of Reynoldsburg City Schools. The Assistant Principal collaborates with the building Principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Five to seven (5-7) years teaching experience 
  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate 
  • Principal’s license 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree 
  • Three to five (3-5) years administrative/lead experience 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics.   • Instructional management
    • Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs
    • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
    • Promote the use of technology in teaching/ learning process.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of all school systems, schedules, structures and operations.
    • Contribute to and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs
  • School/Organizational Climate
    • Committed to promoting an environment that fosters social justice, equity, and supports the needs of all students.
    • Supervise programs designed to foster the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students.
    • Establish a positive, caring school climate for the staff members, students, parents and community.
    • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
    • Assist with managing a school focused on empowering leaders to impact the now and innovate the future.
    • Foster a reflective, collaborative and inspiring culture for students, families, staff members and community partners.
    • Establish programs and activities designed to foster positive relationships among students and between students and staff
  • School/Organizational Improvement
    • Develop and implement accountability practices to evaluate school effectiveness and to make strategic decisions that ensure that results are ever improving.
    • Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
    • Help the Principal develop, and use information systems to maintain, and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
    • Develop a communication plan for students and staff
    • Work with community and other agencies on issues that relate to schools and/ or students' welfare in the school or in the community. 
  • Personnel Management
    • Evaluate certified staff through the use of the OTES model of evaluation
    • Evaluate classified staff in conjunction with the Director of Operations and Services
    • Provide professional development to the staff
  • Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
    • Supervise operations in the Principal's absence.
    • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
    • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
    • Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
    • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
    • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
    • Assist in the coordination of transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Student Management
    • Establish and enforce regulations for student behavior.
    • Plan and supervise extra and co-curricular activities.
    • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
    • Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
    • Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • School/Community Relations
    • Meet with parent school councils and other school support groups
    • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
    • Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing that mission

  • Knowledge of RCS policies and procedures 
  • Knowledge of policies & programs that would impact the ability to design strategies that support specific needs of the school

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: 

  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion. 
  • Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children. 
  • Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
