SUMMARY

Resurrection Catholic School, located in Lakeland, FL, has an opening for a highly qualified, long-term substitute position full-time Elementary Education teacher for Grade 1. The Long-Term Substitute is a teacher who fills in for the same absentee teacher (classroom) for 11 or more days. The long-term substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence. The Long-Term Substitute’s primary duty is teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing to impart knowledge to students.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and direct lessons and activities related to the standards
  • Develop and document weekly lesson plans consistent with curriculum guidelines
  • Provide grade-appropriate instructional program of engaging and interactive activities/lessons for elementary grade levels
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of Resurrection Catholic School and the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Be responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times and for classroom management
  • Assess and document student progress
  • Implement lesson plans, utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge and engage students
  • Interact effectively and respond to all parent communication in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration
  • Integrate technology effectively into the classroom

Requirements

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from an Accredited College or University
  • Current Florida Teaching Certificate 
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a Catholic school setting is preferred

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • An understanding of the Catholic faith and the mission of Catholic schools. 
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and confidentiality with student and school information.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse community of learners, educators, and families.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
