Position Overview

This Physician Assistant position will have the versatility to be able to fill in as needed to cover for surgical assist requirements to help cover any surgeon as a first assist for the day. Previous Orthopedic surgical experience is a must. Ability to cross cover all Orthopedic subspecialties and flex in to cover the Injury Express Clinic.

Operating Room Essential Functions

• Provides surgical first assistant coverage in the operating room for multiple surgeons within all Orthopedic sub-specialties.
• Excellent communicator and team player.
• Ability to be able to handle flexible scheduling.
• Independently able to suture multilayer wound closures.
• Can stand for long hours.
• Issues orders for medications, treatments, and lab tests.
• Performs patient histories and physicals pre-operatively.
• Writes discharge summaries.
• Documents all patient care actions in the EMR timely and accurately.

Essential Functions

• Evaluation of patients with any Orthopedic diagnosis and development of treatment plan, ability to triage to the appropriate subspecialty provider.
• Orders and assesses all imaging to assist in diagnosis and treatment.
• Performs splinting, closed reductions, suture lacerations with local anesthesia as needed.
• Evaluates changes in patient conditions and determines if higher level of care is needed.
• Issues orders for medications, treatments, and lab tests.
• Documents all patient care actions in the EMR timely and accurately, independently.
• Performs injections to large and small joints.

Requirements

Education, Licensure and/or Experience Required

• Active Physician Assistant’s license in the State of Colorado Required
• Active DEA license to prescribe.
• 2 years of previous experience preferred.
• Advanced Practice Nursing applicants MUST have current RN First Assist certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

• Strong clinical skills.
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to synthesize data to determine medical treatment plans.
• Ability to assess patient’s conditions and make treatment plans.
• Strong communication skills to communicate with patients and other staff members to gather pertinent information regarding conditions and treatment and to create well organized, succinct and clear information to supervising Physicians.
