POSITION SUMMARY:

Juvenile Behavioral Health Aides, embraces and facilities the organization philosophy “doing everything we can to aid in the healing and support of the person in need,” model to stabilize and enrich the participant’s lives. Responsible for the direct supervision of clients in a structured residential program. The responsibilities of the role require a firm and fair approach, with honesty and integrity. The person must develop the respect and confidence of the residents and their team. This requires someone who is professional, responsive, and decisive in their decision-making skills and in emergency situations. The individual is required to follow established regulations and procedures, inclusive of regulatory standards and procedures. The JA's must be able to comprehend and apply core correctional practices and cognitive behavioral treatment approaches. They must be able to function well in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment.

Role Summary: Juvenile Behavioral Health Aides will report to the Director of Clinical Services. JA's work on 7 days on shift, 7 days off shift. JA's will assist in the 24/7 operations of the residence. Residential Aides will have direct contact with residents on a daily basis and will provide assistance with activities, scheduling, coverage in the home and on off-site trips, cleaning of the home, cooking (including daily community meals), and documentation of daily tasks. JA's will help to ensure that house rules and operational procedures are followed. All staff is expected to model behavior consistent with good citizenship, self-respect, and respect for others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assisting residents with daily personal routines, including self care, hygiene, dressing, grooming, eating, ADL’s
  • Providing and establishing a rapport
  • Provide sight and sound (arms length monitoring.
  • Reporting any concerns or medical issues.
  • Ensuring that the residents' living quarters are safe and well-organized.
  • Keeping records of resident activity, behavior, and moods.
  • Leading group activities and outings.
  • Performing any reasonable requests that residents ask for.
  • Collaborating with management and coworkers to ensure residents receive the best quality of life possible.
  • Communicate with attending physicians, case managers, and other health care professionals
  • Complete required documentation
  • Provide quality, compassionate care for our all residents, including assisting with meals
  • Perform light housekeeping activities such as laundry, vacuuming, dusting, light cleaning, and minor repairs
  • Assist with personal care, transporting residents to appointments, and assisting with activities of daily living
  • Clean and maintain resident rooms, bathrooms, and other common areas
  • Organize residents' belongings and assist with laundry
  • Assist with recreational activities, such as arts and crafts, gardening, and games
  • Assist with errands, such as grocery shopping, banking, and post office visits
  • Assist with food service, food preparation, and cooking
  • Attend scheduled training, meetings, and conferences
  • Proactively seek ways to exceed resident and employee expectations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • High school diploma.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, juvenile juvenile, early childhood development, or related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • 2 years’ working directly with youth , preferably in a residential setting
  • Excellent communication skills; well-developed customer service skills
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Experience working with youth ages 13 through 18 who struggle with depression, anxiety sud disorders and or experience, working with individuals disabilities.
  • First aid and CPR training preferred.
  • CNA or similar certification a plus.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a chemical dependency tech (CDT) or CDC1
  • Friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills.
  • Good physical fitness.

Skills

  • Emotional intelligence: You must be able to listen and interpret a client’s needs carefully. You will need to pay attention to their nonverbal actions to gather as much information about their behavior to create thorough and detailed treatment plans.
  • Clinical skills: Once you have had a discussion with your patient, you will need to correctly reflect that contact with written documentation. You must be able to implement an effective and suitable treatment plan.
  • Critical-thinking skills: As part of the diagnosis, you will need to think about the connection between cause and effect. You’ll use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills together when considering how to treat a client.
  • Communication: Most of your work will be client-facing while meeting with clients in person. You will also talk to the family and friends of the clients and colleagues in your facility. Your verbal and written communicationskills need to be excellent to achieve a high level.

FACILITY OPERATION:

  • Understand and adhere to procedural requirements of facility activities.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of facility, prepare, and monitor resident house assignments, and requisition necessary repairs.
  • Monitor supply inventories as required, recommend, replenishment, and maintain invoice procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of first aid and fire equipment.
  • Dispense/receive linens for residents.
  • Maintain overall sanitation of facility.
  • Oversee meal preparation and clean-up.
  • Maintain overall building security.
  • Monitor and manage facility as required assuring for lights out, visitation rules, and that activity areas are appropriately met.
  • Conduct emergency drills as required.

PROGRAM/ACTIVITIES:

  • Be aware of resident treatment plans and needs and reinforce individual treatment goals.
  • Participate in mandatory facility meetings, review necessary resident information, and participate in shift briefings.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Maintain a facility atmosphere conducive to agency philosophy and humane living conditions.
  • Respond to resident needs and conflicts in a preventative fashion so as to reduce volatile situations.
  • Attend all probationary training/unit meetings/and any additional training assigned.

GENERAL:

  • Support, cooperate, and work with other agency staff in meeting the needs of the program.
  • Provide assistance as required by supervisory staff.
  • Adhere to the Policy and Procedure of the agency.
  • Reports directly to the supervisor on duty.
  • Performother tasks as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be eligible to become a (QAP) Qualified Addiction Professional
  • Must obtain a Chemical Dependency CT or CDCI and or a CDC ll within two years
  • Bachelors/Associate’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, Criminal Justice/Social Service field preferred or High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Relevant job experience may be substituted for preferred college degree.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that doesn’t preclude the employee from being covered by Agency liability insurance.
  • Maintain a record which does not preclude the employee from working with offenders as required by regulatory agencies.
  • CNA or similar certification a plus.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills.
  • Good physical fitness.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds
