WHO WE ARE: Respond, Inc. is a charitable, not for profit 501 (c) (3) organization created by community residents to enhance and promote the economic independence and general welfare of individuals and families residing in Camden City and County. This mission is carried forth in the provision of comprehensive services in child care, a senior adult center, programs for homeless adults, rental housing and home ownership, youth services, employment, economic development and associated programs that help people help themselves.

RESPOND, Inc. is seeking a Handyperson. The Handyperson will be fixing, repairing, driving and, cleaning as well as custodial duties. They will conduct general maintenance and repairs to Respond’s various buildings, and Child Development Centers. This is a full time, hourly position, 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday, with some weekend hours as needed to address emergency situations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• On a rotating schedule, perform custodian duties, including but not limited to trash removal, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, mopping floors, and painting
• Responsible for the completion of assigned maintenance service requests in a timely manner
• Maintain inventory lists for cleaning and maintenance supplies
• Complete daily inspection of property during your walks and notify Managers of any issues
• Maintain the upkeep of grounds, amenities, building exteriors and offices, parking lots and other common areas
• Assist custodian team with snow removal and landscaping
• Replace, repair or adjust locks, cylinders, latches, door checks, springs knobs, hinges and window blinds
• Install, replace, repair or adjust receptacles, plates, sockets, switches, and lighting fixtures
• Install, replace, repair or adjust speedy connectors, washers, faucets, cartridges, flush meter, other plumbing parts, toilet seats, toilet hardware
• Install smoke alarms and any other fire safety devices
• Grout and replace wall tiles
• Clear local waste line and drain stoppages
• Clean filters for HVAC
• Check and report leaks, damage, debris and security issues
• Complete any other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must have valid driver’s license
• Must possess basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, and electric work
• Flush out and properly drain water heaters
• Knowledge of framing, drywall, sanding, spackling, and paint
• Ability to troubleshoot general building issues
• Responsible for answering emergency calls
• Dependable, responsive, and professional-pays attention to detail, excellent customer services skills, ability to work working alone and as part of a team.
• Must be computer literate

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 years experience as Maintenance Tech and/or Handyman.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Required: criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Compensation:

• Rate is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour commensurate with experience

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• Regularly lift and /or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat throughout the day as necessary.
