Reproductive Freedom for All Seeks California Organizer

Reproductive Freedom for All is seeking an organizer in the Bay Area to identify, train, and mobilize volunteers and volunteer leaders to elect reproductive freedom champions and work to get reproductive freedom legislation passed at the state level. The organizer will coordinate events throughout Northern California and virtually, manage our regional volunteer-led action councils, nurture relationships with community members, and recruit new members to join Reproductive Freedom for All. The candidate must be deeply committed to centering and uplifting the voices of marginalized Californians and turning them into our next generation of reproductive freedom leaders. They must also understand that people who are closest to the problems have the best solutions and the job of the organizer is to turn their passion into action. The goal of this position is to mobilize our existing membership base and recruit new members to our movement in order to build political power and ensure reproductive freedom for all Californians.

Details: Full Time, FLSA-exempt, union
Salary Range: $66,560 - $68,000

Responsibilities (What You Do)

  • Advocate and organize to achieve legislative, other advocacy, and electoral priorities;
  • Drive campaigns to advance State bills for reproductive freedom during the legislative session, and in particular, work to engage volunteers in field and advocacy work around these bills;
  • Drive campaigns to elect Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed candidates during elections, including special elections as needed. Coordinate with campaigns and drive fieldwork (canvassing, phone banking, etc), ensuring an inclusive approach;
  • Support the planning and execution of our annual Lobby Day, including setting up meetings with legislators, coordinating volunteer travel, and managing day-of logistics with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence;
  • Represent Reproductive Freedom for All in local and statewide coalitions;
  • Build power through volunteer recruitment and leadership development, weaving in our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Recruit new, diverse volunteers and potential volunteer leaders to get involved in our fight for reproductive rights via events, set up tables at coordinated events to educate the community about Reproductive Freedom for All and its mission, hold weekly individual meetings with volunteers, etc.;
  • Mentor, train, and support Reproductive Freedom for All volunteer leaders, including those directly affected by the fight for reproductive freedom, to establish self-sustaining “Action Councils.” (Action Councils are groups of all-volunteer leaders committed to working on Reproductive Freedom for All priority campaigns by planning and leading events, recruiting new members, recruiting for rallies, advocating for bills, or leading get-out-the-vote efforts plus other community-building events);
  • Support Action Council leaders in creating and executing organizing plans to achieve campaign goals. Provide support to these leaders through individual meetings, training, regular calls, community development, online forums, and other methods as appropriate, ensuring a collaborative environment;
  • Infuse Reproductive Freedom for All's vision, mission and theory of change in all-volunteer communications; provide background and campaign goals, and foster transparency by sharing regular campaign updates with volunteers;
  • Sign up new Reproductive Freedom for All members and move them up a ladder of engagement into volunteer roles;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (What You Bring)

  • We are looking for someone with experience in community organizing or advocacy/electoral campaign work, including experience engaging, energizing, and delivering high community turnout. These skills may come from areas outside of traditionally paid campaign or organizing work;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop organizing plans and hit goals;
  • Skilled in organizing tactics like tabling, phone recruitment, canvassing, pitching leadership, meeting with members 1-1, and coaching volunteer leaders to make their own plans;
  • Ability to train volunteers and activists in skill development, power-building, and strategic planning and campaigning;
  • Data management experience and knowledge (in particular, the ability to use or learn tools like VAN, Hustle, and HubDialer);
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and different lived experiences;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work with deadlines and under pressure;
  • Self-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team building, and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Reproductive Freedom for All’s mission, values, and goals;
  • Expressed ability to perform responsibilities in line with Reproductive Freedom for All's values;
  • Experience contributing to a workplace environment in which diversity is valued and supported;
  • Eagerness and ability to take on work with a positive attitude and with an eye toward the crucial role cross-departmental tasks play in the success of the organization;
  • Commitment to ensuring anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of our work and our organization;
  • Commitment to not only protecting and expanding reproductive freedom, but also supporting other fights for justice and civil rights;
  • Computer proficiency in Google Suites (E-mail, Docs, Drives, etc), MS Office, Excel, Publisher, and/or other related software skills, and web-based research;
  • Willing to work some nights and weekends;
  • Must be able to lead and attend in-person events.

Nice-to-haves (or excited-to-learns):

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish/strong Spanish language skills preferred;
  • Knowledge of California’s political landscape;
  • Relationships with California student leaders.
