VBR provides continuing education, technology, networking opportunities and business resources to its Members. VBR upholds the highest standards of integrity and professionalism by insisting that members conduct themselves by the standards of the National Association of Realtors® Code of Ethics.
The Vail Board of Realtors® is a non-profit organization providing services to around 800 Realtor® Members and over 100 Affiliate Members.
Purpose
The Associations Executive’s (AE) role is to oversee strategy and operations for the two nonprofits (VBR and VBRF) and for-profit corporation (VMLS). S/he is responsible to the Board of Directors and the membership for effectively leading and managing the Association in achievement of its goals and objectives and in accordance with the by-laws and policy governance established by the Board of Directors. The AE manages the Association’s staff, works closely with the volunteer leadership and serves as staff liaison between committees and the Board of Directors.
Essential Duties Include:
Strategic Leadership
  • Fosters in others and models forward thinking, risk taking, innovation, leadership and change management. Delegates where appropriate.
  • Recommends and participates in short-term and long-term strategic planning with the Board of Directors.
  • Translates the Association’s mission into realistic goals and objectives for the staff. Ensures that goals and objectives are attained and members’ needs are met.
  • Acts as a change agent within the Association. Identifies what must change and what stays the same to accomplish its Mission.
Membership
  • Supervises the planning and execution of all communications to members, including newsletters, general mailings and news releases. Oversees publication of monthly newsletter.
  • Organizes and prepares orientation materials and classes for new members with the assistance of the Membership Services Director.
  • Works to ensure members find value in their membership by regularly evaluating and improving the benefits of membership as well as actively listening and responding to member feedback and ideas.
  • Works to achieve exceptional visibility within the Association community, including regular visits to member offices, and promoting and attending member organized events.
  • Promotes active participation of members in Association activities and programs.
  • Plans, promotes and oversees the annual membership meeting and all official Association meetings.
Program Management
  • Oversees all Association programs and projects, and is responsible for their success and growth.
  • Facilitates all Ethics and Arbitration complaints. Works closely with the Professional Standards Chair, Grievance committee chair and the Association’s legal counsel on complaints. As complaints may be referred to the State Professional Standards committee, is responsible to see that the designated committee people are properly trained in Professional Standards by periodic training sessions held by the CAR.
  • Organizes and conducts an education program in cooperation with the Education Committee chair and the membership, to advance the professional/technical/managerial skills of the membership, promoting these programs throughout the local board and neighboring Boards to encourage wider participation.
Fiscal Management
  • Ensures that all funds, physical assets and other Association property are appropriately safeguarded and administered; operates within the approved $1.6M budget.
  • Ensures an accurate accounting system is in place and maintained using established accounting principles.
  • Understands the current and future financial resources needed to meet the Association’s strategic plan, goals and objectives.
  • Manages the finances of the Association with the assistance of the Budget Chair including the preparation of an annual budget and long-range forecasts of needs. Handles all dues billing, banking, accounts payables and receivables, all MLS billing.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to develop a fund-raising program that meets the needs of the Association and leads all revenue generating activities.
  • Collects membership dues and accurately remits dues to CAR and NAR,
  • Works with Association’s accountant to prepare financial reports for the Board of Directors on a regular basis and submits an annual operating budget for review, revision and approval.
Operations Management
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the operations of the Association including developing an appropriate business structure.
  • Ensures appropriate systems and technology are in place for the day-to-day operations.
  • Manages Association employees and volunteers. Recruits, hires, orients, trains and motivates Association staff, responsible for reviews, promotions and disciplinary actions and addressing complaints and resolving personnel issues.
  • Responsible for updating computer technology and software for the improved services and efficiency of the Association office, as well as keeping the Board of Directors updated on the progress of State and National technology.
  • Executes contracts and commitments as authorized by the Board of Directors or within established policies.
  • Works closely with committee leadership. Provides staff support as needed.
  • Ensures the legal integrity of the Association. Helps to maintain the Bylaws and MLS Rules and Regulations in compliance with NAR and CAR requirements. Monitors Association activities for compliance with Bylaws and MLS Rules, anti-trust and equal opportunity housing regulations.
  • Ensures integrity and security of Association’s files, legal and historical documents and membership lists.
Partnership with Board of Directors
  • Ensures that the Board of Directors and Officers are fully informed of all Association operational and financial conditions, and of all important factors influencing them.
  • Implements all decisions of the Board of Directors.
  • Plans and coordinates meetings of the Board of Directors and the elected officials of the Board, as well as the General Membership meetings on a monthly basis. Sits in and participates on committee meetings, and special events throughout the year in cooperation with the appropriate committee chairs.
  • Attends all Board of Directors meetings and serves as ex-officio, non-voting member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chair and the Board of Directors.
Relationships & Advocacy
  • Represents the VBR, by developing and maintaining strategic working relationships with CAR, NAR, and other local, state, and national Boards or Associations.
  • Attends and participates in local, state and national Realtor and association meetings and conventions, and reports learning to the Board of Directors and membership as appropriate.
  • Serves on state and national committees as elected or appointed.
  • Assists in resolution of complaints and conflicts between members, staff and the public.
  • Administers hearings and attends arbitrations and mediations.
Public Relations
  • Promote the Association, its members and the larger profession to the media, community and stakeholders through persuasive, strategic and well-researched messaging.
  • Represents the Association within the community, and public and private organizations to enhance the relationships and growth of the Association and create a sense of community.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships and acts as liaison with media, elected officials, the Colorado Real Estate Commission, and local business associations.
  • Regularly attends and represents the Association and its members’ interests at local and regional governmental meetings, community, and Realtor events.
Other Duties
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Job QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Able to work effectively with the Chair and the Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and professional standards and the public policy dimension of the Association.
  • Proven effective management of staff and volunteers in an association setting.
  • Ability to foster a culture of connectivity, innovation, inclusivity, and cohesiveness.

  • Experience in successful membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience with coalition and collaborative relationship management.
  • Highest ethical character.
Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years’ work experience in a Realtor® Association (strongly preferred, ideally in a resort community).
  • Background in real estate industry and/or CAE or RCE designation preferred.
  • Experience with Association or non-profit financial management and governance.
  • Experience with many types of technology including Microsoft Office, virtual meeting applications and social media.
