Renton Technical College is Hiring a Property Maintenance Adjunct Faculty Near Renton, WA

Reporting directly to the Dean Advanced Manufacturing, this part time faculty member will assist students in gaining skills to be competitive applicants for entry level employment as assistants and possibly as technicians for property maintenance at apartment complexes. Instruct subjects applicable to painting, curb appeal, flooring installation, and drywall, electrical, plumbing and general repairs such as doors, countertops, appliances and windows, included are all aspects of safety/emergency producers/First Aid & CPR and use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as power washers, trash compactors, and leaf blowers. Construction and maintenance terms and vocabulary development are very important. Work readiness, how to apply for a job and how to appropriately communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and apartment residents are emphasized.
 
This Part-time position is scheduled to being Spring quarter 2023. Instruction will take place two nights per week and this position is appropriate for someone who works full time during the day in another position outside of campus. The 18-credit certificate program is delivered in one or two courses per quarter, over 3 quarters. No summer classes are currently offered. A dedicated classroom and lab space are available, as are lab equipment appropriate for training.

  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes from diverse student populations especially underrepresented and underserved student populations.

  • Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the certificate program in property maintenance. 
  • Setup and maintain the lab environment for hands on demonstrations and practice. 
  • Administer health and safety measures in accordance with campus policies.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines. 
  • Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  • Administer and interpret college procedures; resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view. 
  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.
  • Support the college’s mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean Advanced Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated leadership or participating in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic. 
  • At least (2) years’ work experience in a related maintenance occupation (considered to be journey level work)
  • Experience teaching or providing group training to employees. 
  • Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment and industrial first aid certificate and an industrial safety and hygiene certificate. 
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff and the community. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. 
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Successful experience using tact, discretion and courtesy while interacting with all persons.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail is required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of, understanding of, and a commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college. 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • AA degree in related trade
  • Bilingual: English / Spanish

WORKING CONDITIONS:
 Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.

 In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $900 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $991 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.  Guided Practice (lab) credits for adjunct faculty are paid $1,167.74 per credit.

Degree Stipend:Master’s or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate quarterly.
  • Quarterly Master's stipend: $888 
  • Quarterly Doctorate stipend: $1,777 

All offers of employment are contingent to background checks, including employment and required degree/credential verification. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment, but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform successfully in the position. Finalists are required to complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure form as required under RCW 288.112.080. Post offer, pre-employment criminal background checks are also required.
