This full-time, classified and overtime eligible position supports the advanced manufacturing and Instructional programs teams across areas of study and industrial spacesThe Instructional Maintenance Mechanic I / IIis responsible for performing routine maintenance work on program specific equipment and machinery,maintaininghealth and safety plans and materials,inventory management, and supportingshipping and receiving. Priority consideration date is on Tuesday, February 20th. The position is open until filled.Renton Technical College, located southeast of Seattle, has provided quality education in a variety of occupations for over 80 years.   • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Performs a variety of preventative and routine maintenance and repair work on industrial machines, equipment, and devices (relevant to career training programs on campus).
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems. 
  • Maintains logs and schedules for routine preventative maintenance. 
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair. 
  • Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment according to specific procedures.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
  • Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse in order to maintain machinery and work areas.
  • Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
  • Supports inventory management for consumable supplies and materials specific to career training programs.
  • Help facilitate shipping and receiving of program materials.
  • Research parts, find materials, and read repair manuals to troubleshoot repairs. 
  • Coordinate lab-based health and safety plans, including routine review of facilities, storage of chemicals, and machine safety. 
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • High school graduate and at least two years of general work experience in mechanical machine maintenance, construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade preferred.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the job responsibilities. 
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies. Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English. 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines. 
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy. 
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record. Have or be able to acquire a license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work hours will be 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. The Maintenance Mechanic I / II is a part of the emergency team and is required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies. Work is physical in nature and is sometimes performed outdoors with exposure to the elements of weather, in an industrial lab setting, and in an office environment which is adequately heated and ventilated. A candidate for this position must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet and be on their feet for an 8-hour shift. The person hired is required to provide authorization for employment in the United States.
