Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the safety and security of tribal court proceedings, serves legal documents to community residents, including summons and subpoenas; assists in transport to and from jail facilities, and coordination of community service workers.

Duties:

• Maintains effective safety and security procedures for all participants in tribal court proceedings, including jury members, witnesses, defendants, advocates, members of the public, Tribal Court Judge, and Tribal Court personnel;
• Coordinates courtroom proceedings as requested by the Tribal Court Judge;
• Personally, serves legal documents to community residents under the jurisdiction of the RSIC Tribal Court, including summons and subpoenas;
• Assists Tribal Police Officers with the transportation of individuals to or from jail or juvenile facilities;
• Coordinates the Community Service Workers’ Program to ensure attendance, performance of work duties, safe use of equipment, satisfactory completion of work, and sufficient inventory needed for assignments;
• Escorts jury members to designated locations, as requested;
• Obtains and maintains Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services Correctional Officer Training, and
• Other job-related duties as assigned by the Tribal Court Administrator.
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Have and maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license; and qualify for participation in the RSIC Vehicle Program.
• Compiling Required Reports, maintaining files, and basic computer skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of hire;
• A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate at the time of hire;
• Demonstrated work experience in a related field such as law enforcement, youth or adult programs, or courtroom administration;
• Ability to meet eligibility criteria for admission to Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services Correctional Officer Training Academy, and obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire date;
• Moderate computer skills sufficient to complete timely reports and evaluations;
• Have and maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license; and
• No felony or misdemeanor convictions prior to or during employment.

PLEASE NOTE: Hiring preference will be given to qualified tribal members of Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the HR Policy 164.905- PL101.630. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony requires a designated candidate to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and confirmation of professional references and certifications.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.50 per hour
