Client was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's in June 2022 and is currently undergoing Leqembi infusions. Despite her diagnosis, she remains active and engaged but has experienced a decline in social interactions as many of her friends have withdrawn since her diagnosis.

She resides in a busy household with teenage grandchildren. However, she craves additional stimulation and a renewed sense of purpose. She enjoys playing cards and cooking meals, but she would greatly benefit from regular companionship and engaging activities.

Responsibilities:

Provide companionship and emotional support to client

Engage in stimulating activities such as playing cards and cooking meals

Accompany on short outings or walks if desired

Foster a supportive and positive environment

Requirements:

Previous experience in elderly care or companion roles preferred

Compassionate and patient demeanor

Ability to engage in meaningful conversations and activities

Reliable and punctual

Female preferred

Schedule: 2-3 times per week for 4 hours each visit. Flexible scheduling available.

Pay: Starting at $30 per hour, with potential for higher compensation based on experience and fit.

Responsibilities:

• Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
• Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.
• Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
• Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
• Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
• Reminding clients to take their medications.
• Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
• Assisting clients in preparing meals.
• Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.

Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:

• A valid HHA certificate in New York State
• A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
• An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college degrees or those currently attending colleges or graduate schools.
• Deep empathy and patience.
• Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
• Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
• Strong composure under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
