Rend Lake College seeks a full-time Public Information Specialist. This individual will:
Generate press releases, publications, feature stories, digital content, scripts, photographs, and other materials necessary to provide information to the general public about the college, its services and functions through the use of area newspapers, radio stations, television stations, social media avenues, the college’s website, and other media outlets.
Take photos and / or video at and report on various campus events.
Coordinate with marketing staff to produce publications such as the class schedule, annual Report to Our Community, Viewbook, Student Handbook, Newsletters and others as directed by the Director of Marketing & Communications.
Disseminate information and other communication materials to keep college personnel informed of college happenings.
Maintain effective relationships with representatives of area media organizations, handle inquiries from reporters and other media representatives, and suggest story ideas to area media.
Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications in generating publicity for marketing and branding efforts.
Assist in updating, refreshing and pushing relevant content to the college’s website.
Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications in developing recommendations for the annual budget process, including recommendations for professional development activities.
Monitor emerging trends in relevant fields and recommend initiatives.
Attend monthly meetings of the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees, as well as any special meetings and workshops, as directed.
Serve on committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism or related field from an accredited institution preferred. Associate Degree required.
Experience in journalism or professional writing preferred; excellent writing, vocabulary and grammar skills required.
Photography experience required; videography experience strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Apps & Services preferred.
Helpful skills sets: desktop publishing, photo editing, video editing, website content editing.
All candidates will be required to successfully pass a background screening process
$37,000 - $42,000 or commensurate with education and experience
