We are looking for a Staff Accountant. The staff accountant position will support the Metro Open Shop Finance Lead and Branch managers to ensure timely and accurate financial close. The position will also support the branch management in researching and tracking cost, and progressing project earnings.

Responsibilities

• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.

• Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.

• Preparation and posting of monthly journal entries, including allocations, prepaids, accruals and adjustments according to monthly close schedule

• Monthly reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts

• Perform month-end closing process, FP&A variance analysis, and reporting of accounting information for internal management reporting, external reporting and audit purposes

• Support FP&A (forecasting) initiatives such as variance analysis

• Assist in AP and AR functions including P card management

• Ability to meet assigned deadlines and handle multiple task environment

• Assist with the research and resolution of finance and accounting issues

• Must possess strong computer skills overall and experience and competency working with Excel, i.e. Vlookups, etc.

• Must be able to work independently or as part of a team while enhancing personal and departmental performance

• Requires initiative and the ability to analyze complex accounting documents to improve processes and reporting where results have monetary impact.

• Lead various process enhancement initiatives

• Support special projects as necessary

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.

• Construction accounting a plus

• Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.

• Education - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

• Experience - 3 to 5 years

• Software - Proficient in Excel; Experience with Access a plus; Hyperion Reporting; J&E/M3 Accounting or large ERP

• Other - Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.

• Critical thinking
