Position Overview:  

The Controls & Automation Specialist designs, builds, installs new automated equipment, and implements controls & automation systems to support business growth & improvement initiatives under the supervisor of the department leadership.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

• Designs and builds automation equipment and integrates it into existing or new manufacturing and testing equipment. 
• Participates in cross functional teams in a collaborative environment to identify and develop requests for proposal packages for new and modified equipment. 
• Manages, designs, and implements both capital and CI projects from beginning to end.
• Develops Capital Expenditure justification on projects and manage approved budget. 
• Identifies opportunities for improvements and implements solutions while standardizing and documenting the solutions.
• Selects the automation equipment to complete system design and support system development.
• Communicates frequently with internal and external customers and suppliers regarding various equipment reliability issues.
• Must understand the rules and conditions of automation systems, safety controls and electronic equipment operation. 
• Coordinates and participates in new and modified equipment installations, run offs and acceptance of machines.
• Maintain equipment design / build guidelines and standards for vendors to follow.
• Other duties as required. 

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise: 

• A Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred.
• 7 – 10 years’ experience in high volume manufacturing automation design/build projects.
• Proficient with computers, PLC programming, motor controls and power distribution.
• Expert in Allen Bradley, Siemens, and other programming software.
• Self-motivated and dependable team player with business maturity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
• Knowledge of AC and DC motor systems including VFD installation and verification.
• Ability to create, read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and ladder logic.
• Familiar with end of arm tooling design and vision systems
• Experience programming Allen-Bradley PLC, Guard Logix, HMIs, and Motion Controls and/or Siemens S5 and S7, Fanuc Motion Control, Epson robots 
• Knowledge of Functional Safety Circuits and Safety Standards for industry.
• Wise decision-making working independently, within a team, or leading a team.

• Able to perform job duties safely.
• The position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with the help of another employee.
