REPORTS TO: Supervisor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Technical Writer II revises or writes standardized material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. This worker receives technical direction from supervisor or senior writer, notes or manuals containing operating procedures and details manufacturer's catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. This writer may have access to blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.

The Technical Writer II will be the focal point for all publications on the contract and will maintain the E-OMS electronic document module. The incumbent will spend the majority of time working on documents via desktop computer. The Technical Writer will be expected to work in a mostly independent role providing detailed review and edits on all publications within the contract. The bulk of the publications will be of a technical nature and provide procedures, guidance, and specifications to technicians and operators. The Technical Writer will work hand-in-hand with multiple facilities to ensure all applicable data is captured and verbalized correctly. The incumbent will be the point of contact for Enhanced Technical Information Management System (ETIMS) and act as the Technical Order Distribution Officer (TODO). Will organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards ensuring clarity, conciseness, and proper terminology. They will be expected to select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts for insertion to allow proper illustration of material. Additional responsibilities within the publications realm may be added as dictated by contract needs and supervision requests.

Job Requirements

GENERAL DUTIES: The employee will perform publication development, reviews, and edits on electronic databases. The incumbent will collaborate with multiple facilities of differing mission sets to ensure publication needs and requirements are met to allow for mission accomplishment. The employee will provide a highly detailed approach to publication management to ensure all instructions/manuals/directives offer a high level of clarity.

OTHER DUTIES: May be required to perform housekeeping duties to assigned work areas.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Position requires an Associate’s degree in technical writing or a related discipline and a minimum of four years of technical writing experience in an Air Force or DoD environment. A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of applicable Air Force guideline and rules of protocol is desired. Incumbents must be highly proficient with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat; must be proficient with the English Language, be familiar with APA Editing or comparable grammatical editing styles and have strong MS Word editing and formatting skills. Must have good organizational skills, possess good interpersonal skills, and work with limited supervision. Knowledge of DoD/AF terminology and AF Technical Order Management System ATOMS/ETIMS or comparable system is desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. l selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work activities are normally performed in an environmentally controlled office with limited fieldwork.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; and requires very little lifting or moving of heavy objects or materials.
