About the Role
The Safety Manager will work with Reel Health & Safety partnered productions to maintain safety standards during production. They will ensure that productions comply with company, state, local, and international occupational environmental health and safety rules, regulations, and policies, as well as other relevant legal guidelines.
Tasks of the role:
- Create the overall Safety Plan for production
- Be the on-set safety representative for the duration of production, including undertaking safety inspections, training, and collaboration with production officials and staff
- Act as a representative of Reel Health & Safety and an expert on all production environmental health and safety matters, including construction safety, stunt safety, locational safety, property management, etc.
- Develop safety guidelines and risk assessments for productions, both domestically and internationally, and create location safety memos for production locations
- Hire and assign EHS consultants and specialists to relevant clients and locations, and acquire and provide safety equipment when necessary
- Regulate the safety of stunts and other dangerous activities, when applicable, through collaboration with relevant production safety, SPFX, and stunt personnel
- Respond to pressing health and safety issues, addressing production emergencies and accidents in a timely and efficient manner if they occur, and conduct post-accident inspections to uncover and address the cause of complications
- Sustain amiable relations between productions, Reel Health & Safety, regulatory agencies, and other industry safety organizations, and create a network that will assist our work with future productions
- Meet and exceed clients’ expectations with environmental health and safety projects that meet the requirements of their budget and schedule while maintaining industry health and safety standards
- Continuously review, research, and innovate creative solutions for EHS requirements
Required:
- Required to work in potentially hazardous environments
- Film Production Experience Required
- Ability to handle physical and emotional stress
- Willingness to work in remote and challenging locations
- Capability to travel and work on-site for extended durations
- Proficient in project planning, management, and execution
- Adaptable to changing production requirements, sometimes on short notice
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of career experience in environmental health and safety
- Minimum of 4 years in the film and production industry
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Health and Safety, Environmental Studies, or related field is preferred
- Certification in OSHA 30
- Certification as a Safety Professional such as CSP, CIH, SMS, OHST, ASP, or other similar certification is preferred
- Preferred certifications in ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
- Familiarity with production safety guidelines, including MPAA, federal, state, and local guidelines, and the ability to learn new guidelines as required by different locations and countries.
Job Type: Variable Hour
Compensation: $35.71 to $43.68 per Hour. (If annualized equates to $130,000-$159,000) **Pay rates apply only while assigned to a production**
