Job Summary :

The Department Manager is responsible for the staffing requirements and resource management of Reel FX divisions. The Department Manager reports to the Director of talent management and partners with the Talent team, HR, Supervisors and Production Management in developing and maintaining processes, policies and procedures, to maximize efficiency and quality across all projects.

In addition, this position participates in the department’s long term growth and development plans, including, career paths, reviews, growth, and retention of talent.

Responsibilities :

Talent Management :

Manage resources and staffing needs through schedules that incorporate collaboration with HR / Talent Acquisition and Production

Partner with HR to solve and support sensible cases, conducting staff yearly reviews, tracking artist performance and progression.

Establish relationships with Supervisors, Artists, Producers and Technical team members across all Reel FX studios

Assist and train leadership in assembling review data and conducting performance reviews

Support Supervisors and leads, coaching them into delivering feedback and performance reviews and also into building department strategic growth plans

Resource Casting :

Work with the production team to establish and maintain master schedules and standardized department schedules for each project

Collaborate with the teams to allocate resources in order to maximize efficiency and provide for all productions, provide solution and facilitate resource conflicts resolution

Work closely, on a weekly basis, with senior management and producers to insure each project has the necessary need

Define continuous measurement methods to evaluate and maintain the efficiency of the Production Team’s processes

Create reports, specific documents and analysis for production management

Artist Management :

Timesheets tracking and approbation, vacation / time off requests, contracts and work permit renewals

Collaborate with Talent Development team to continue to grow and optimize Reel FX training and development activities to result in positive employee experience and to promote higher employee retention

Conduct Regular 1 : 1 meetings with artists, creative and technical feedback sessions and career progression assessments

Ensure and nurture a positive, creative and inclusive experience for artists

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s (BA) degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with managing and leading teams in an animation studio or Feature film production / postproduction facility or video game studio, or equivalent experience
  • Requires experience in a Production and / or Management position
  • Expert in Google suite
  • Knowledge of scheduling softwares
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual (French-English) required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative
  • Ability to inspire and encourage a team
  • Creative thinker and proactive problem solver
  • Interest and ability to mentor others
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
