The Red Rocks Community College Biology Department is seeking enthusiastic instructors that have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed in their chosen field. A successful candidate creates a classroom climate that encourages learning. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the department and program.
Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.
Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.
Courses filled by this position may include the following: BIO 1111: General College Biology I with Lab in a face-to-face format AND any or all other positions within the department that are needed to satisfy course load.
Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Biology, OR a closely related field Master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hours in Biology.
Preferred Qualifications:A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Biology or a closely related field and at least 18 graduate hours in Biology.Experience teaching Biology at the college level, particularly at a community college. Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of students and staff from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to work from campus (Lakewood campus and/or Arvada campus). Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups. Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom where appropriate. Knowledge of computer applications. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development techniques. Skills with managing, preparing, and delivering courses in the classroom and in the field. Ability to give and receive oral and written instructions and procedures. Knowledge working with D2L or a similar LMS.

We foster competency and interest in the sciences for students who are planning further degrees or careers in STEM fields, those fulfilling degree or certificate requirements at RRCC, and those seeking personal enrichment.
Work Environment and Typical Work Schedule (Dates and Times): Works directly with faculty, lab coordinators, and other staff in the Biology Department. Interacts with a variety of college employees at every level of the organization. Teach day, evening, or weekend courses and/or teach in any modality including in-person classroom-based courses, hybrid, remote, hyflex, concurrent, or online, ensuring that all courses meet the approved course outcomes and outlines. Work environment and schedule will be dependent on course(s) taught which may include day or evening courses in either an in-person classroom-based format or online. Work is generally performed in a standard classroom and lab environment and/or online. Work will be required outside of class meeting times.
