Description:

Position: Bartender

Reports to: Bar Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: Responsible for providing fast, friendly and courteous service to customers while taking and serving beverage orders.

Essential Duties:

  • Greets customers and presents beverage menus.
  • Makes recommendations and answers all related inquiries from guests.
  • Checks identification of customers to verify they are of legal drinking age before serving any alcoholic beverage.
  • Takes orders from serving staff or directly from customers, and records drink orders accurately into register system.
  • Prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in accordance with standard recipes.
  • Peels, slices and pits fruit for garnishing drinks.
  • Mixes and garnishes cocktails according to standard specs.
  • Upsells drink and snack items to customers.
  • Responds promptly to requests from customers in a polite and professional fashion.
  • Attempts to limit problems related to customers' excessive drinking by following established procedures.
  • Process transactions using the POS system; prepares checks for customers, processes customer payments.
  • Balances the cash register at the start and close of each shift, by turning monies into the vault.
  • Ensures cleanliness of the glasses, bar equipment, and working areas.
  • Arranges glasses and bottles into attractive and functional displays.
  • Learns on-going promotions and is able to explain the promotions to customers.
  • Complies with all health, safety and hygiene standards and policies.
  • Monitors inventory and restocks the bar as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required.
  • Current ABLE Commission Liquor license required.
  • One year beverage server and/or bartending experience required.
  • Must possess basic math skills to give change, and calculate tickets.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to present change correctly and a knowledge of guest charge procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience mixing drinks.
  • Must be familiar with serving and setting up beverage servers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, customers and general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to identify the proper management person to correct problem guests or employees.
  • Basic analytical and deductive reasoning ability.
  • Must have superior interpersonal relations and customer service skills.
  • Understand and comply with all Company and departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

  • Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs/ladders, work in small spaces, walk, reach and lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
  • Requires occasional heavy physical work; pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Work involves almost constant exposure to elements, such as extreme temperatures, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
