Red Lion Christian Academy is Hiring an Academic Resource Center Learning Specialist - Middle School & High School Near Bear, DE

Red Lion Christian Academy is seeking a highly qualified candidate for full and part-time Learning Support Specialist positions at the elementary, middle, and high school level. The Learning Support Specialist is responsible for providing customized instruction to students who are indicated as having special needs. This may be in the form of supplemental instruction, ELL instruction, or individualized instruction based on diagnosed learning disability. Candidates for middle school positions need to be comfortable teaching most subject areas including elementary and middle school math and science. High school applicants need to be comfortable teaching high school math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, College Algebra, as well as Chemistry). Candidates need to be skilled at working with parents, their student's educational team, and outside agencies.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:

  • Collaboratively prepare customized instructional goals for students, taking into consideration the input of psycho-educational evaluations, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, administrative representatives, physicians, and outside agencies involved with the student’s care.
  • Provide tutoring assistance taking in consideration the student’s performance, learning style, disability, psycho-educational testing results and recommendations.
  • Gather data to evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions.
  • Keep session logs of concepts covered and concepts which need further review.
  • Establish and maintain weekly communication with parents, with a minimum of bi-yearly meeting attendance to review parental goals and student progress.
  • Initiate and organize mid-year meetings with parents and faculty, as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of student accommodations, where appropriate.
  • Advocate for the student in ensuring the implementation of student accommodations.
  • Assist in other departmental responsibilities, as needed.
  • Assist with test proctoring, as needed.
  • Promote a cooperative environment between other educational staff through the sharing of ideas and resources.
  • Investigate and contribute new instructional techniques and resources to instructional team.
  • Participate in maintaining an educational environment that is orderly, clean, and inviting.
  • This position entails attendance at monthly after-school faculty meetings, monthly department meetings, and parent conferences, as needed.

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with Teaching Certification preferred, Master’s in Special Education or previous work/personal experience with special education, preferred.
  • Experience tutoring students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Outlook, Word, Excel.
