JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
REGIONAL TRIBAL CLIMATE CHANGE MONITORING COORDINATOR
RED LAKE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a full-time position for the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians (Red Lake Band) within the Red Lake Department of Natural Resources (Red Lake DNR). The position will be responsible for leading the coordination of a regional climate and water monitoring network as well as climate change adaptation and monitoring projects at Red Lake Reservation. The network consists of staff and community members from Tribal nations in the Great Lakes region of the Midwest. The position is part of the new National Science Foundation funded center, the “Global Center for Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Transboundary Waters”, hosted by the University of Michigan. The Red Lake Department of Natural Resources is an official and major partner of the new center, along with Cornell University, the College of Menominee Nation, the University of Wisconsin, McMaster University, Toronto Metropolitan University, the Six Nations of the Grand River, Brock University and Wilfrid Laurier University. The origin of the position is a Midwest Tribal Climate Change Monitoring Strategy for water and climate that was completed in 2018. This position will work with partners among the region to update and improve the strategy on a continuous basis providing an updated version every 2 years. The nature of the improvements in monitoring techniques and available resources are such that this 2-year update will be necessary. This is a two year position that may be extended if appropriate funding is secured. Anticipated start date: June 10, 2024. Reports to Water Resources Program Director. Full-time position with benefits. Salary; $54,000-$64,000 DOQ.
