SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tarper’s primary job is to ensure waste is properly secured and contained by tarping the shipping intermodals (trailers) and assisting with compactor operations when needed. A Tarper is required to prep the intermodal containers for waste/recycling loading operations and drive Terminal Tractors (yard goats) in order to park and navigate the intermodals safely on RDS grounds.
In addition, Tarpers are required to assist other co-workers with any help that they are trained and able to perform; including, but not limited to: traffic management, assisting customers, other tarping operations, cleaning operations, and grounds keeping.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Knowledge of the hazards of regular work operations and of appropriate safety rules and regulations, as well as:
- Provide friendly, quality customer service
- Have familiarity with different materials, including recyclables, for safe and efficient handling
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Able to learn to operate a Terminal Tractor Truck safely and efficiently
- Able to see details at both close and far distances
- Able to hear other people, vehicles, radios etc. for effective communication
- Able to lift/push/pull at least 40 pounds of weight
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Able to walk for long distances
- Comfortable with heights and able to climb a ladder multiple times a day
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Able to work well independently and as part of a team
- Able to show up on time to work, prepared and ready
PREFERRED
- First Aid/CPR training certification
- 2 years experience in similar field or customer service
- Experience driving large trucks, pulling trailers, or flagging
*Employment contingent on passing a background and drug test. Random drug testing is ongoing.

Pay: $26.46 - $29.40 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 30 per week
