Since the late 1800's, the Transtar companies consist of a group of rail carriers have been an important component in this country's industrial development. Moving billions of tons of raw materials to manufacturing sites. Transporting finished products to market. Storing and handling bulk commodities. Providing rail transport services to hundreds of satisfied customers throughout the nation's industrial heartland. The Assistant Manager, Maintenance of Way position is a full-time, exempt salaried supervisory position of Transtar's Gary Railway Company. The position is responsible for directing track and structures inspection, planning, maintenance, and construction in the field within prescribed budget and in compliance with applicable laws, including FRA, OSHA, PUC, EPA regulations, and AREMA recommendations. Job Responsibilities: Promote safe work practices and environment.Manages and directs efficient operation of day-to-day maintenance and construction activities.Performs inspection and maintenance planning for all bridges, culverts, buildings, scales and other fixed facilities, as well as track inspections, in compliance with FRA, PUC, and OSHA regulations.Propose recommendations for new equipment, improved methods, and maintenance & replacement schedules.Supervise personnel in accordance with labor agreement, company rules, and FRA regulations.Performs some design, prepares material lists, cost estimates, sketches, drawings, and schematic diagrams in advance for maintenance and construction projects.Provides coordination of repairs and projects with other departments, contractors, and outside authorities.Maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers.Participates in Maintenance of Way “On-Call” assignments. Job Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or 3-years equivalent work experience is required.Valid driver's license required.Knowledge of all phases of track maintenance, construction and inspection is required.Supervisory experience preferred.Computer proficiency required (MS Office Software).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must be willing and available to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to accomplish job requirements.Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather. Transtar, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
