Job Overview: As the Director of Payroll, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the payroll function within the organization. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of payroll processes, compliance with relevant regulations, and effective management of payroll staff. The Director of Payroll plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely disbursement of wages, benefits, and tax withholdings while maintaining compliance with legal, regulatory and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
Develop and implement payroll strategies, policies, and procedures, including the continued automation of the payroll function, to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
Provide strategic direction, leadership and training to the payroll team, fostering a collaborative and high performance culture.
Compliance with legal, regulatory and audit regulations and requirements:
Stay abreast of US federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, and Canadian federal and provincial payroll tax laws and regulations ensuring the organization's compliance.
Implement and maintain processes to address changes in regulations and legislation affecting payroll. • Generate and analyze payroll reports for local and parent company management and regulatory authorities.
Support recurring internal and external audit processes.
Relationship Management:
Manage relationships with external payroll service providers, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely services.
Address employee inquiries related to payroll, deductions, and taxes, ensuring excellent customer service.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related field. Professional certification (CPP - Certified Payroll Professional) is required.
10 years of experience in payroll including regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements in a multi state employment environment, as well as Canada.
Proven experience in a senior-level payroll role with a track record of 5-7 years successful leadership.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with UKG preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks under daily deadlines.
High level of integrity and confidentiality.
