Salary Range: $61,000.00 - $85,000.00 Salary/year

Description

REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships.

Job Purpose:

RJA is seeking a passionate Independent Study Teacher reporting to the Executive Administrative Assistant and work closely with: Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Site Admin, teachers and staff, committed to shepherding their students to the next level of academic excellence and shows this through their development, reflection, execution of school culture, implementation of student rigor and proven results of student success. The individual’s personal and professional values are aligned with the mission and commitments of RJA and will be culturally responsive in creating equitable learning pathways for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Academics and School Culture

  • Utilize online software programs and Google Classroom efficiently
  • Prepare alternative coursework delivery methods for students with supervisor approval
  • Conduct live engagement and synchronous learning sessions with students weekly
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers
  • Work collaboratively with local staff and school-wide departments in all school-related matters
  • Attend events and meetings as directed (may be in-person or virtual)
  • Return/respond to all calls and emails in a timely manner (typically within 24-48 work hours)
  • Complete all compliance items accurately and in a timely manner (Examples: Learning Agreements, Attendance/Learning Logs, Work Samples/Records, Assigned Work Records, Educational Plans, and Report Cards)
  • Engage in activities and data collection/analysis for educational or authorizing agencies like WASC
  • Engage in school wide professional development opportunities and/or an Individualized Professional Development Plan
  • Collaborate with RJA Remote team regularly to identify, problem solve, and prevent/address issues that may arise
  • Support students in grades 2nd - 8th and their families to design an innovative Personalized Learning Plan with differentiated instruction, supports, and resources for the student; Plans, develops, organizes, and assigns as necessary in collaboration with the student/parent, a comprehensive educational program for each student, which incorporates the progress and mastery of the California Common Core Standards (includes helping to research and determine which curriculum and materials would be most beneficial to the student’s educational objectives and needs)
  • Consistently meet with the parent and the student, virtually as appropriate, every 20 school days or learning period, and provide guidance and support
  • Schedule additional meetings as needed to meet the needs of the student
  • Actively participate in SST, 504, and or SPED processes and supports as needed Attendance & Compliance
  • Participate in proctoring all internal and state mandated testing and provide needed prep material for students
  • Collaborate with Testing Coordinator, RCs, and other team members to implement processes for assessments
  • Encourage student participation in school and state-mandated testing and assessments to measure student performance

  • Steady work ethic and a high level of patience to overcome difficult challenges
  • Maintain a high standard of honesty and integrity and present oneself with poise

Additionally, experience in the following areas is helpful:

  • Operate standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications including, but not limited to, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, PDF, and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Google, Skype, etc.);
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Analyze situations to define issues/draw conclusions, and problem-solving
  • Strong writing Experience teaching in an urban public school or charter school setting
  • Principles of best teaching practices and strategies
  • Curriculum and instructional methods
  • Methods of assessment and intervention
  • Familiarity with most pertinent education laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s degree in subject matter field or Education is strongly preferred
  • Must possess a current California teaching credential with proper Subject Matter Authorization in for the position applied for or be enrolled in a credentialing/internship program at a college/university
  • Solid knowledge of subject matter, including California Common Core State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

Physical demands:

  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time
  • Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing
