Job Title: Food Technologist – Culinologist – Culinary Science – Food Scientist
Location: California - City of Industry
We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Research and Development department as a Culinologist/Food Technologist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly visible space and be part of a vibrant and fast-growing company!
Position Summary
This is currently a blended position as the company is growing.
High Level Summary of Deliverables: Using the product development process, design and complete USDA & FDA regulated products. Responsible for formulating, developing, applying, testing, and evaluating out going products ensuring they are properly prepared and meeting company and customer standards. Develop and/or review ingredient statements, allergen statements, and nutrition facts panels. Review and evaluate food products to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards of identity, and claim requirements. Research consumer markets and latest technologies to develop new product concepts. Perform testing on products and follow through manufacturing support during plant commercialization’s. Provide regulatory guidance and answer compliance-related questions regarding food products, in accordance with emerging/new regulations. Provide compliance recommendations by conducting research, advising of upcoming regulations, and evaluating the overall impact on the business. Develop, maintain, and manage a system/database to retain documents, ingredients, products, and labeling requirements for packaged foods. Perform administrative tasks including updating formula databases and record maintenance. Position requires attention to detail, multi-tasking, self-starter, and self-directed but also being part of the team.
Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop, duplicate, or modify formulations
  • Formulate, apply, and test at bench level and evaluate outgoing products ensuring proper product development
  • Create finished samples and arrange for completed products/samples to be shipped to customers
  • Food labeling for FDA and USDA regulated products
  • Create and update existing nutritional’s and label declarations
  • Collect and maintain future and current documentation from vendors
  • Conduct product sensory evaluations and evaluating those results.
  • Analysis of final products to ensure compliance with labeling standards, food consistency and adherence to cost standards
  • Travel to plants (internal and external) to support commercialization of products
  • Maintain accurate project files, formulas, specifications, and data
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Contact vendors to receive sample products for testing and pertinent information, including but not limited to, specification sheet, nutritional’s, allergens, grain free statements, gluten free certifications, and kosher certifications
  • Update existing formula directions in database

Required Education/TrainingAssociates or Bachelor's Degree in food science, culinary science or culinology is preferred. Academic background in Nutrition, food law, or related field. 3 years of experience in product development, food labeling, regulatory, food manufacturing, food retail, and/or similar experience. Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to work independently and autonomously. Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting. Strong understanding of Genesis software.Experience/Knowledge Required: Strong proficiency with ESHA Genesis SoftwareStrong proficiency with FDA/USDA regulationsStrong proficiency of Product Development Strong proficiency with MS OfficeExperience in frozen meals Deep understanding of ingredients and ingredient functionality. “Hands on” experience with bringing products from ideation to commercialization process.Experience within manufacturing & test runs/production runs as the position supports commercialization activities at internal and external locations.Culinary background and skills are a mustExperience in “better for you” categories (Keto, Gluten Free, Grain Free etc…)Direct Reports: N/ATravel: 20%

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
