    Position Title: Director of Professional Development

    Classification: RSAA - Range 1
    Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement
    Supervises: Various administrative/support personnel within areas of responsibility
    Position Goal: To support the District's efforts to provide all professional and paraprofessional staff with effective learning opportunities to build capacity which are aligned to national, state, and local standards, with a focus on increasing student achievement.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum five (5) years administrative experience; District-wide/Central Office experience in an instructional supervisory role preferred.
    • Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or appropriately related field; Doctorate in Education preferred.
    • Appropriate Pennsylvania certification required.
    • Experience in an urban school district is preferred.
    • Extensive, current working knowledge and experience in the area of professiondevelopment design, implementation and evaluation of program effectiveness
    • Broad and deep understanding of the theory and practice of working with the adult learner and how to implement collaborative learning models.
    • Thorough knowledge of latest research and best practices in the field of education.
    • Ability to be an effective designer and presenter of professional development.
    • Ability to analyze data and arrive at sound conclusions.
    • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to work with varied constituencies.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
    • Designs a district-level comprehensive Professional Development Plan for all professional and paraprofessional staff aligned to various District plans, including, but not limited to, the District’s Strategic and Comprehensive Plans with the goal of improving student academic outcomes.
    • Develops, implements, monitors and ensures that all administrative and instructional staff are current with professional development obligations under state law and PDE regulations, including, but not limited to, the development, implementation, and oversight of the Continuing Professional Development Programs.
    • Establishes and oversees professional development committees in an effort to engage stakeholders in data analysis and feedback sessions to identify training needs and to inform and adjust the professional development plan, as needed.
    • Identifies effective professional development and learning opportunities for professional and paraprofessional personnel including, but not limited to, professional learning communities (PLCs), meetings, workshops, coaching support, and online coursework.
    • Coordinates and monitors district-wide professional development activities in collaboration with the schools and departments within Teaching and Learning.
    • Ensures that the professional development plans in each school's School Improvement Plan (SIP) are aligned with both the District and SIP goals and that those school-level plans are implemented consistently.
    • Oversees the maintenance of the District's electronic database to catalog all professional development hours completed by District employees.
    • Serves as a professional development coach to instructional leaders.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of contracted services in areas of responsibility.
    • Supports Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) by providing ongoing information and examples of effective practices.
    • Develops a course catalog of effective professional development.
    • Maintains knowledge of current information regarding educational reform and organizational improvement on topics such as performance evaluations, high-leverage instructional practices, research, assessment, and professional development.
    • Visits classrooms and school sites on a regular basis to monitor the effectiveness of implementation of strategies learned through professional development/collaboration and assists as needed.
    • Assists in the preparation and administration of the professional development budget.
    • Prepares reports and other correspondence relating to professional development.
    • Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions, including, but not limited to, hiring, firing, disciplinary action, etc. in collaboration with other supervisors.
    • Perform such other duties as requested/assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of School Improvement and/or Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time (12-month) exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan and/or individual contract.
