With over 30 years of experience providing direct services to students and professional development to educators, Reading Assist has helped thousands of students acquire critical reading skills. Reading Assist is a non-profit organization that offers year-round high-dosage tutoring services to at-risk children with the most significant reading challenges, prioritizing support to low-income students, students of color, and English Language Learners.
Reading Assist’s strategic ambition is to become the leading regional expert and trusted provider of reading instruction for young, struggling readers. We intend to grow to serve 10,000 students with 90% reaching benchmark in foundational reading skills within one year.
The MD of Operations will build and manage financial and business operations and establish processes for growth. MD of Operations will oversee the finance, HR, and overall organizational operations. As a senior leadership team member, the MD of Operations will be a strategic leader, helping grow our impact and efficiency.

Responsibilities:
● Manage talent, operations, and finance
● Identify new lines of business and price optimization
● Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
● Responsible for the development, forecasting, and monitoring of the yearly budget.
● Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity
● Work with the CEO and the board in the development of financial and budgetary plans
● Devise strategies for ensuring the growth and implement process improvements to maximize output and minimize costs
● Ensure compliance with all state, local and federal requirements
● Identify what, if anything, to outsource and manage vendors
● Drive the charge to lower our cost per student serve
● Attend finance committee meetings and other committee meetings as needed.
● Responsible for reviewing benefit plans yearly (along CEO) working with a broker to secure plans for the schools employees.
● Participate actively in leadership team meetings to strategize and position the organization for the future.
Regular travel may be required primarily within Delaware and surrounding states. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and candidates are expected to work in the Wilmington office on a hybrid schedule.
Experience, Skills, and Competencies
● Advanced degree in business administration, finance, business development or equivalent experience
● Experience in developing budgets and business plans
● Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, production, and employee management
● Ten or more years in a senior leadership role
● Ability to streamline or implement structures and roles that boost speed and efficiency while supporting rapidly shifting business demands
● Superior negotiation skills for both internal and external purposes
● Strong working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics, using business management software
● Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legal guidelines
