Responsibilities

Summary: 

This position within Corporate Accounting performs accounting functions, ranging in complexity, while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, controls, and procedures which includes accrual recognition, foreign currency accounting, balance sheet account reconciliation, variance analysis, financial statement preparation, regulatory reporting, and journal entry processing, in multiple bases of accounting. The position participates in moderately complex accounting projects providing technical expertise and judgment.

What You’ll Contribute Day-to-Day:

  • Prepares accurate and timely journal entries for moderately complex areas to ensure accounts are properly reconciled and recorded.
  • Performs detailed research on account fluctuations to provide explanations for changes.
  • Completes timely account reconciliations to identify variances between supporting schedules and the general ledger and performs detailed research to resolve variances in accordance with Company policy/best practices.
  • Reviews business results to gain an understanding of the business.
  • Participates in and/or documents evaluations of less complex internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Identifies issues and communicates to manager.
  • Provides support to internal groups, such as the Financial Controls Program and Internal Audit.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance processes and/or make them more efficient.
  • Participates in driving process improvement initiatives.
  • Prepares supporting documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Prepares internal and external financial reports for more complex business units or legal entities.
  • Reconciles reports to the general ledger to ensure data is complete and accurate.
  • Analyzes and documents balance sheet or income statement fluctuations.
  • Drafts financial statements and footnotes. Presents results to peers, business partners and others.
  • Demonstrates clear and concise written and oral communication skills via email and preparing internal documentation (e.g., related party memos) and in meetings with business partners.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity by asking questions about their role and responsibilities.
  • Participates on strategic initiative team and is responsible for completing initiative work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of published accounting policies/procedures and local accounting standards. Identifies and/or performs research of technical accounting transactions and events.

Qualifications

Skills Required:

  • Accounting: Identifies, measures, and communicates economic information to the management of the organization, to enable them to make informed decisions.
  • Finance and Accounting Trends: Keeps abreast with trends, developments, and technologies within the field of finance and accounting, both locally and internationally. Understands the impact of these on the organization. Incorporates relevant trends to ensure the organization's relevancy and competitiveness.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Delivers accurate and timely financial reports. Could include analysis of month-end, quarterly and year-end close, and statutory reports.
  • General Ledger: Maintains the record-keeping system for the organization's financial data, with debit and credit account records. Ensures the general ledger provides a record of each financial transaction that takes place during the life of an operating company.
  • Internal Controls: Develops policies, procedures, and processes to safeguard the organization's assets and prevent fraudulent behavior.
  • Reconciliation: Compares the organization's financial records against monthly statements from external sources (e.g., banks) to make sure they match up. Detects errors, discrepancies, or fraud.

  • Industry Insight: Awareness of current trends, research, regulatory policies, and the latest news within an industry. Understands and keeps up to date on local, national, and international policies, and trends that affect the organization. Applies that knowledge to their line of work.
  • Planning & Organizing: Sets clearly defined objectives. Identifies and organizes deployment of resources based on assessed need and takes into account possible changing circumstances. Monitors team’s performance in meeting the assigned deadlines and milestones.
  • Problem Solving: Leverages knowledge, previous experience, and skills to identify the crux of an issue and creates a workable solution to resolve problems. Understands verbal or numerical information and how to make reasoned decisions based on this analysis.
