Re-use Hawai‘i is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on a mission to strengthen our community by decreasing waste, providing affordable resources, creating green jobs, and (re)cultivating the circular economy.

Every year, we divert an average 740,000 pounds of resources from the landfill through our Deconstruction and Redistribution programs. Deconstruction is a sustainable alternative to demolition where our skilled crews hand-disassemble buildings to salvage the material for reuse. These building materials, along with salvaged furniture, appliances, hardware, and more are sold at our Redistribution Centers for 40-90% off retail value. We're proud to provide an affordable resource for our community while decreasing waste and the emissions associated with the production of new material.

In addition to our Deconstruction and Redistribution programs, we've recently furthered our commitment to the community through our Workforce Development Program (WFD) where we provide sustainable job training to individuals facing barriers to employment.

Position Summary: Take part in an outstanding opportunity to build your skills and gain knowledge in the sustainability and green sector! Crew members collaboratively disassemble structures in order to preserve material for maximum reuse. This is a full-time, tempoary position, ~40 hours per week.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm on Weke Road, Hanalei.

Compensation:

• $18.00 per hour
• Paid vacation and sick time (accrued)

Position Responsibilities:

Crew members will disassemble building structures applying established deconstruction techniques including performing surface and structural salvage, handling recycling and waste materials, and preparing and loading salvaged materials for hauling.

Other tasks include:

• Looking after the organization's tools and equipment.
• Participating in daily safety meetings and following safety policies and procedures.
• Following supervisory directions.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly worksite.

Qualifications:

• Work collaboratively with team members, leads, and other personnel onsite.
• Attention to detail and safety.
• Able to work in all outdoor elements and conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment - hard hat, safety glasses, hard-toed and soled boots, gloves, ear protection, and a respirator, when required.
• Experience using hand and power tools.
• Some experience in the construction/building industry (i.e.: volunteer, past employment, DIY, etc.)
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
• Ability to lift and manipulate material up to 60 lbs throughout the workday.
• Perform repetitive physical work and conduct repeated movement, including standing, walking, bending, prying, stooping carrying, and other related tasks throughout an 8-hour workday.
