Job DescriptionRESPEC, an employee-owned professional consulting and services company, specializes in applying engineering principles and innovative technologies to solve our clients’ most challenging problems. RESPEC actively seeks a motivated and talented Rock Mechanics Engineer or Geomechanical Engineer in our Mining & Engineering business unit in our Rapid City, SD, or Lexington, KY, office.This position requires a expertise in engineering and geology principles to successfully support a range of geotechnical projects. This position is focused on the open-pit and underground mine geomechanics. Strong observational and critical thinking skills will be required daily, the successful candidate must be willing to travel for field work on a regular basis.The successful candidate will support other senior staff with the development and execution of a wide range of geotechnical projects across the mining industry. The ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously is a must. This position is technically challenging and provides unique opportunities for continued professional and personal growth in a growing company. The successful candidate will join an internationally renowned engineering team that is at the forefront of the mining geotechnics community and is committed to providing value-added services. Our employee-focused culture provides the support and flexibility for employees to attain professional and personal goals.Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mining, geotechnical, or geological engineering or a closely related discipline5-10 years of experience that includes field work related to geomechanicsStrong technical background in core logging, sampling, and testing and underground rock mechanicsSpecifically in hard rock and limestoneAbility to plan and conduct field inspections and geotechnical investigations in remote locationsFamiliarity with ground support plans and typical stabilization measuresFamiliarity with common empirical and numerical stability modeling methods and software.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in mining, geotechnical, or geological engineering or a closely related disciplineProfessional Engineer (PE) licensureCurrent Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) CertificationOperational experience in underground stone minesTechnical expertise in underground and open pit stability analysis and interpretationFamiliarity with stability related instrumentation and monitoring methods.Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package that consists of medical, vision, dental, holidays, paid leave, 401(k) Plan, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), continuing education, and professional societies.
