Summary:

The Survey Instrument Person is responsible for assisting the Survey Party Chief in setting all benchmarks, metes and bounds, elevations, and other project dimensions needed for proper execution of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate various surveying instruments such as transit, distance measuring equipment, theodolite, level etc. to locate established lines, points, and angles or to secure or establish distances, elevation points, and angles.
• Perform all staking.
• Assist the Party Chief in all activities, and in certifying the accuracy and conformance to plans, and specifications of layout work. Report discrepancies immediately to the Party Chief.
• Clean, check, and adjust survey instruments to assure accuracy of measurements.
• Store surveying equipment assure equipment and materials are present on job site to satisfactorily and safely accomplish surveying project.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or its equivalent is preferred, additional course work in GIS, engineering technology or mathematics.
• 1 years of construction survey-related experience.
• Knowledge of surveying instruments and equipment, their effective use and maintenance.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, take initiative, and problem solve while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions; function effectively as part of a team; ability to work under pressure; communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
• Proficient in MS Office. Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise One is a plus.
• Ability to travel on a regular basis; valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets Company standards.

The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
