Summary:

The Broom Operator is responsible for the operation of the power broom to sweep material from area to be paved and to sweep excess material and debris from paved area and assisting with all phases of the paving operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform daily pre-start up procedures, i.e. note the service due date, check fluid levels and inspect physical condition of broom for damage or wear that may affect productivity and/or safety and report any findings to Supervisor.
• Frequent scanning of area to be swept to ensure broom is able to function correctly, monitoring of debris to ensure broom will not be damaged.
• When job does not require broom operation, assist crew members towards job completion.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred.
• Previous paving experience and operating heavy equipment is required.
• Knowledge of paving equipment operation and job tasks.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work and typical office equipment, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
