*THIS IS A TEMPORAROY, FULL-TIME POSITION

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the oversight of the Forsyth Plant Supervisor, the Summer Helper will perform entry-level labor and project work. The role requires basic knowledge of construction site surroundings and as well as some experience with operations of industrial equipment (vibratory plow, trencher, digging equipment and industrial pneumatic bore). Work tasks are laborious and require use of hand tools (shovels, drills, hammers, etc.). In support of the Technician-I, Technician-II and Leads, this role assists with placement and removal of cable, performs splices, and maintains or repairs cables in accordance with construction plans and work orders. Requires use and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Frequent travel for construction projects is a requirement for success in this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Perform in a support role and place direct buried cabling (fiber, copper) into the ground/earth.
    1. Perform earthwork labor with various hand tools and industry related equipment (vibratory plow, trencher, digging equipment, industrial pneumatic bore).
    2. Perform maintenance of buried cable, performing tests and repairs (removals, replacement, and splicing).
    3. Restore all disturbed surfaces including concrete and pavement surfaces to acceptable condition.
    4. As assigned, operates (when supervised) various heavy equipment, as needed (plows, backhoes, trailer, etc.).
    5. Mounts demarcation devices and protectors at customer premises.
    6. Assists with the maintenance of construction equipment, trailers, and vehicles.
  • Performs related construction tasks as required.
  • Aerial Cabling:
    1. Assists with installation and removal of aerial cable and pole lines.
    2. Assists with inspection, replacement, or repair of aerial cable and poles.
  • Maintenance and Repairs with Copper and Fiber Optic cabling:
    1. Assist with preventative maintenance on project worksite(s) cables.
    2. Perform cable tests to troubleshoot issues and identify defective component or section.
    3. Remove obsolete cable as appropriate.
  • Mount demarcation devices and system protectors at assigned project work locations (customer’s property, field work site, company’s facility).
  • Operate daily, a computer system and software programs which include, but are not limited to performing documentation of time entries, expense reports, material usage documentation, review credit card statements, and process fiber testing reports (from test meters).
    1. Other computer programs operated daily, include mapping software, MS Teams, and Virtual trainings (webinars, videos).
  • Maintain and organize department files related to current / completed jobs, and receipts.
