Range Environmental Resources, Inc. is Hiring an Operations Manager Near Sutton, WV

Range Environmental Resources (“Range”) provides land reclamation, water restoration and environmental consulting services to mining and non-mining customers throughout the Appalachian region with the goal of returning land to pre-mining conditions or repurposing the land for commercial, industrial, agricultural, residential or recreational use. Range completes “Abandoned Mine Land” and “Special Reclamation” projects awarded through the West Virginia Department of Environmental Projection (“WVDEP"), which includes complex civil engineering work performed on former coal mine sites. Range seeks to improve rivers, streams, and discharges through novel and innovative treatment applications to help customers meet their various regulatory standards and requirements. Range also provides environmental consulting services to customers typically in connection with land reclamation and water restoration projects. Range endeavors to capture data on a timely basis, utilize project management software, and incorporate technology into every step of its business to optimize operations and make data-driven decisions to improve outcomes and drive profitability.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all of Range’s land reclamation and water restoration projects
  • Report directly to Range’s President on operational matters, CFO on financial matters and Permit Manager on permit matters
  • Coordinate land reclamation and water restoration projects with project foreman, and manage equipment purchase, sale and maintenance process with CFO and Equipment Manager
  • Perform construction contract inspections
  • Attend and participate in pre-bid meetings on state-awarded reclamation projects
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports
  • Plan, organize or direct activities concerning projects
  • Manage and monitor project design progress
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods
  • Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and translate requirements into actionable plans to on-site foreman and employees
  • Schedule the project(s) in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines
  • Work under deadline pressures in an efficient and composed manner
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with engineers, consultants, clients, and suppliers
  • Proactively address delays, bad weather, or emergencies at job sites
  • Work concurrently on several projects at different locations throughout WV
  • Provide detailed weekly updates on project status, open issues and correct action plans
  • Travel to every project each week to provide on-site verification of progress, interface with state officials to obtain billing approvals, and provide guidance and leadership to the on-site foreman and employees

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Project Management, or a related field of study
  • 5 years of project management experience in civil engineering, reclamation or a related field, with experience reclaiming and repurposing coal mine sites a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, drawings, and specifications and apply the information to on-site field conditions
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, technical information of each project to WVDEP field inspectors in a clear, transparent and professional manner
  • Ability to oversee and manage Range employees working on project sites, including tracking employee hours, equipment usage, supply purchases and components of each project
  • Ability to create timely professional progress reports, including the status, issues, and corrective action plans for each active project, as well as post-mortem review and analysis for each completed project to continuously improve Range’s job costing, pricing and processesProficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project and engineering and mapping programs customarily used on large civil engineering and reclamation projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Successfully complete a background check, including a pre-employment drug test, as well as on-going random drug testing during employment

Pay: $51,680.47 - $62,238.84 per year
