College students, teachers, college grads, graduating high school seniors with horseback riding experience

We are a children’s summer day camp looking for staff who are passionate about working with horses who might like to share their interest with our campers. Applicants who would enjoy sharing their love of horses and riding with children. For most of our campers we just started the spark and interest that may lead to a future of being with and around horses.

Our summer day camp, Ramapo Country Day Camp, has a riding program that teaches campers ages seven to thirteen (2nd grade to eighth grades) English style riding lessons. Most of the campers are beginner to intermediate level. We have a team of 10 instructors (International and US staff) who work together running the daily lessons and horse care programs.

Our 35-acre facility has riding rings, newly constructed stables, corrals, and riding trails.

We try to keep the same campers with the same instructors all summer so they can form a great connection together. You will be around other people other staff members who see working with children and horses as something they "get to do" not "have to do".

Camp Dates: June 24th to August 16th -- (39 Total Days)

Camp is closed on Thursday, July 4th

Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm

We have full summer positions ( 8 weeks) as well as partial summer openings - 4, 5, 6, 7-week positions available.

Ramapo located in Airmont, NY on East Saddle River Rd on the Upper Saddle River, NJ border. We are near Montvale Allendale, Ramsey, and Woodcliff Lake. We are easily accessible via the Garden State Parkway (Exit 172 – Grand Ave, Montvale), Rt 17 (Saddle River / Woodcliff Lake or Lake Street – Ramsey Exits), Rt 287, The NY State Thruway (Exit 14B), and Rt 59.

Staff either commute in each day or they work as paid bus supervisors on our Bergen County, NJ and Manhattan / Brooklyn bus routes.

Transportation is provided for all NYC staff. Buses are all throughout Manhattan. Paid position.

Job Description:

Ramapo's horseback riding program is the perfect blend of English Riding and camp fun. Campers will learn basic riding skills in a setting that allows for growth as a rider. Lessons also include time for games to reinforce skills and build a rapport between rider and horse. Instructors need to have comfort and confidence teaching students basic English riding skills ....from mounting and dismounting, teaching full seat, half seat and posting at the walk, as well as teaching steering and some trotting. We also spend time outside of the corrals on the camp’s trails! Instructors will also teach basic horsemanship to campers as well. Instructors will be expected to work with the team to care for the horses for the duration of camp, as the horses live on the camp grounds. This includes feeding, grooming and care of the horses on a daily basis, as well as cleaning stalls. Instructors will also be working with the camp's horse care program, which teaches campers about horses, horsemanship, grooming, tacking, and care of horses etc. The team makes plans for horse care each week that do not include riding. We are looking for instructors who will bring positive energy to the team, is a team player, and is willing to invest themselves in our horses and our campers for the summer.

Salary ranges for instructors is 3600 to 5000 depending on experience. Staff earn tips as they have many of the same campers all summer. Lunch is also included for staff. Camp is 39 total days. Other opportunities to earn money: bus supervisors and recommending someone to work.
