POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, AFT position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) and have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head.
Salary Range - AFT U18 - $53k-58k
JOB SUMMARY
The Residence Director has the overall responsibility for a campus residence hall and staff of undergraduate para-professionals. The student development program is approached through the staff development concept, which includes training, selection, supervision, and evaluation of para-professional staff members. The Residence Director is responsible for such areas as programming, crisis intervention, disciplinary conferences, budgeting, facilities, supervision, and occupancy management.

DUTIES
  • Has general responsibilities for all student personnel matters in the assigned residence hall and recommends and implements policies relating to residence hall staff responsibility. Works primarily with Resident Assistants in order to assist students in their development.
  • Responsible for administrative matters related to operating the residence hall. Provides consultations and referrals to students with academic, behavioral, emotional or physical concerns. Develops an effective working relationship with other offices, i.e., Student Affairs, Center for Health and Counseling Services, Facilities and Public Safety. Represents the Office of Residence Life on appropriate committees or at events, i.e., Open Houses, Orientations, and Admitted Student Days as needed. Executes appropriate administrative responsibilities in a timely fashion. Monitors all payroll related functions associated with paraprofessional staff.
  • Monitors the overall programming efforts for the assigned residence hall and assists in the development of innovative programs in all areas of Residence Life. Monitors program budget for residence hall. Assists the department with the Spring Intent and Housing Selection processes. Remains informed about the activities, programs, issues, and concerns in the assigned residence hall and address them effectively.
  • Works with staff to uphold College policies and serves as a student conduct hearing officer for policy violations. Convenes weekly staff meetings and bi weekly meetings with Resident Assistants on an individual one on one basis. Responds to written and oral communication and submits yearly objectives and end of the year reports with clarity and in a timely manner.
  • May be assigned special duties and responsibilities during periods of crisis and/or emergency. Participates in "On-Call" overnight rotation. Assures that the residence hall area is opened and closed in accordance to all departmental and supervisor's expectations. Responsible for follow up and assessment of facilities' issues and concerns. Monitors and oversees the tracking of vandalism and damage billing. Focuses on building problems and helps foster building programming related to the population. Monitors floor or building specific issues or problems and addresses them appropriately. Participates as needed in the development and implementation of the training programs for professional, graduate and para professional staff. Participates as needed in the development and implementation of recruiting and selecting Resident Assistants. Facilitates on-going staff evaluation program and holds staff accountable to job expectations.
  • Informs Director of Residence Life of all issues related to the assigned residence hall and general student development issues. Consults with the Director of Residence Life in the development of the overall residence hall program.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings, planning sessions, and division meetings. Responsible for several departmental tasks, projects or responsibilities.
  • Has responsibility for staff supervising, and evaluating the work of the Resident Assistants. Develops the staff to be a cohesive well-functioning group with positive attitudes through staff development activities and programs. Meets with students and makes necessary referrals to other offices and services for assistance; e.g., Center for Counseling and Health Services, Advisement, OSS etc. Maintains daily office hours and projects a high degree of visibility and availability in the assigned residence hall. Cooperates, communicates and acts as liaison with all departments, offices and individuals at Ramapo that are involved with the department of Residence Life ; e.g. Student Affairs, EOF, OSS, Center for Health and Counseling Services, Center for Student Involvement, Dining Services, Facilities, and Public Safety.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
This position requires excellent oral and written skills and an understanding of Residential Life and student development. Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong customer focus, and excellent skills in administration, organization, collaboration, writing, supervision and training. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multitask operations/projects, establish workload priorities, balance diverse tasks, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and deal with confidential and sensitive matters in a professional manner.
This is a 12 month "live in" position and is required to participate in On Call Duty rotation 365 days a year. Variable Hours are required including nights and weekends.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Proof of master's degree in student personnel, counseling, or a related field is required prior to the start date.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two academic years (4 semesters) of post-undergraduate Residence Life experience is required. Experience in training, selection and supervision of student staff required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google calendar, shared drives, Banner, and Maxient strongly preferred.
