Rainier Valley Leadership Academy  is a public, tuition-free, charter school, providing an anti-racist collaborative community and rigorous education, while providing access to civic leadership and college success for all scholars in Seattle. OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking a mission aligned Development Manager to join the community at Rainier Valley Leadership Academy. Our ideal candidate has a go-getter attitude to work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create and execute a development plan that increases RVLA brand awareness and revenue to support the strategic direction of the organization. This person must have a dynamic personality that invites conversations that lead to action. This position will create experiences that connect donors and prospects to the mission of the organization that will lead to deepening engagement with the organization inspiring new or increased philanthropic support. This position is responsible for fundraising, a collaborative grant writing process and increasing brand awareness for philanthropic support. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about having a long term commitment to joining the RVLA community and wants to help build a community-centered school driven to dismantle systemic oppression through the unit of the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create and manage one-on-one meetings with high net worth individual donors and prospective donors. 
  • Research and analyze the donor landscape, communicate findings regularly, and develop strategies for targeted and differentiated approaches to engaging prospective donors and stewarding them through a ‘moves management’ cycle.
  • Support RVLA departments in vision-planning and departmental communication with a development focus. 
  • Build awareness of RVLA in key private philanthropic circles and at conferences. Present on RVLA frequently to small and large groups
  • Develop and host friend-raiser and fund-raiser events, with complementary strategies for donor development and conversion.
  • Plan, execute and manage donor cultivation and stewardship campaigns, online and by direct mail, to build the volume of donors and dollars.
  • Design and write pitch and cultivation materials for distribution online and in print - including video narratives, presentations, and printed materials.
  • Develop supporting collateral for school tours, the RVLA Ambassador program, including story and data decks, short video film scripts, and printed materials.
  • Publish and edit a quarterly Development newsletter for current and future donors as well as an internal audience, including the Board of Directors, Senior Management and staff, and school sites. 
  • Contribute to other advancement (development, communications and marketing, community engagement) activities as needed, arising naturally from a mission-driven, start-up environment.
  • Travel nationally when opportune or necessary, especially in the Puget Sound areas, with the ability to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Help develop a strategic development plan with annual goals and targets to support the organizations mission and annual priorities. Consistently report progress against goals (on a monthly basis and as requested).
  • Serve as a grant writing project manager ensuring that necessary internal stakeholders and external partners complete all necessary components 
  • Maintain Individual giving records; build, improve and maintain efficient tools to record all aspects of the donor cycle and for accurate and timely reporting and data analysis.
  • Reconcile Individual Giving program transactions with Finance and Data team monthly to ensure proper acknowledgements, recognitions and reporting.
  • Create accurate donor lists for outward facing materials (Event programs, Annual Report, Website, Invitation lists, etc.).
  • Create and maintain a timeline of activities that rolls up to and leverages a broader team and organization timeline.
  • Work closely with other internal staff to develop and implement a detailed marketing plan for each event.
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers are kept informed and equipped with current messaging.
  • Facilitate committees for event related needs and opportunities.
  • Develop event, campaign, grant and individual giving budget projections and track all revenue and expenditures
Additional Duties & Responsibilities of all RVLA Staff 
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
  • Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive compliance
  • Work with other staff and administrators to address and resolve scholar issues.
  • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all scholars
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
  • Special projects and duties outside of primary teaching responsibility as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience in a nonprofit organization
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience in development work, fundraising and donor relations.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in event/campaign coordination with a solid record of achieving or exceeding financial and participation goals.
  • Demonstrated success and competence in strategic planning and project management.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of individual donor development and major gift fundraising.
  • ‘Major Donor’ or ‘Major Gifts’ experience is essential. Background in development, high net worth sales, private banking, or strategic public relations is preferred. 
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and have proven experience in all aspects of prospect identification, moves management, and effective solicitation.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple assignments and handle complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and strong communications skills. In particular, the individual should have public speaking experience or skills, be able to represent GDPS in a variety of settings and possess exceptional strength in the area of donor relations.
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the short and long-term goals and priorities of GDPS.
  • Adheres to the highest ethical standards, demonstrates an empathetic disposition and perseverance; uses discretion and good judgment; reflects an optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to needs of the donors. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
  • 2-3 years of project management experience and a record of strong and creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with various types of people, including senior leaders inside and outside the organization.
  • High level of initiative, creativity and energy 
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, under deadlines, without close supervision; self-direction in the initiation, coordination and completion of tasks, acute attention to detail is essential. 
  • Knowledge of office and productivity software sufficient to function smoothly in a highly technology-based environment (including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and Internet applications).
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data and information from multiple sources and develop comprehensive recommendations.
  • Strong negotiating and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to motivate peers to meet ambitious goals.
  • Humility, sense of humor, and rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve; interest in reforming public education.
  • The ability to handle problems as they occur, and follow through on all aspects of the position. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel; ability to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, relevant experience may substitute
  • Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, Drop Box, Google products or other Cloud-based applications.
