SUMMARY Performs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in on site rail car loading, unloading, and moving services, which may also include track maintenance, rail car repair, rail car washing, and in-plant trucking. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains a safe working environment by making sure all employees understand and follow all safety rules. Assumes responsibility of the site safety leader duties at locations as required or deemed necessary. Trains employees on procedures and operations. Identifies and develops employees to move into leadership roles as Site Leaders, Assistant Site Leaders, and Crew Leaders. Motivates and maintains a high level of morale among employees. Maintains a positive relationship with the customer by providing a high level of service and by meeting goals set by the customer and Railserve. Manages the operation ensuring that all aspects of the contract are met. Maintains a thorough knowledge of operating procedures, safety rules, locomotive operations, loading, and switching operations. Ensures that payroll, fuel costs, locomotive costs, and other costs are managed effectively. Properly maintains the Purchase Order system. Develops and follows preventive maintenance program for all equipment with the assistance of the mechanical department. Sets up work schedules so that each crew has the right mix of experience with the right people working in the right positions. Performs administrative duties including timekeeping, hourly evaluation forms, filing reports required by the customer and the company (e.g. car counts, on time spots, month end reports, supervisory investigation reports, accident derailment reports). Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience High School Diploma (or equivalent) highly preferred. 3 years of rail and process operations experience preferred. 5 years of supervisory experience highly preferred. B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Proficient with computers, MS Word, Excel, E-Mail, etc. Must be extremely dependable and punctual in attendance; must have reliable transportation to work every day. Excellent communication skills; Must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills. Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner. Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team. C. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. D. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use a calculator. E. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with standard problems that occur in rail car moving . F.
