Job Summary:

RailPros is seeking a talented Civil Engineer with a specialization in Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for utilizing your expertise in civil engineering principles to perform a variety of duties related to both traditional civil engineering projects and H&H analysis. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to the success of our team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complete project documents
  • Review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance
  • Develop new techniques and/or improve processes, materials, or products
  • Assist upper-level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analyses for various projects, including stormwater management, floodplain mapping, drainage design, and erosion control.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure that H&H considerations are integrated into overall project designs.
  • Prepare H&H reports, models, and calculations to support project deliverables and client requirements.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of civil engineering projects, including site development, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on H&H issues to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • 8 years (min.) experience in general civil engineering design including a mix of roadway, drainage, earthwork, H&H, developing construction plans, specifications and estimates
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Strong background in hydrology and hydraulics with at least 8 years of experience in H&H analysis.
  • Experience working with multiple disciplines within a project scope
  • Experience in field engineering and/or Design Support During Construction
  • Proficient is technical writing specifically specifications in multiple formats
  • High level of proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Proficient in site grading, utility and drainage design
  • Proficient in street improvement design and public works design
  • Experience in site development
  • Experience developing and leading design teams and mentoring junior engineers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 12 years prior experience
  • 2 years prior experience in project management
  • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues
  • Business development skills
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines
  • Established relationships with railroad clients
  • Proficient in Hydrology/Hydraulic design and calculations
  • Experience with transit related projects including facilities
  • Experience in track design
  • Experience in traffic design
  • Experience in both public and private sectors
  • Experience in using MicroStation
  • SUSMPs, WQMPs and SWPPPs experience
  • QSD/QSP registration
  • Experience in Facility Design
  • Experience in Right of Entry permit processing

Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), equivalent, or authorization of CLPO
  • Member of professional practice organization, national board member or officer, recognized expert on statewide activity, resource for national activities and organization

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all staff necessary to complete assignments
  • Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments
  • Prepare proposals to provide professional services

Additional Information:

  • Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $160,000 / year.
