Rahn Household is Hiring a Private Duty Nurse (RN) for Pediatric Patient: Full-time/PRN Positions Near Birmingham, AL

I am advertising multiple positions: part-time day shift (08:00-18:00), part- or full- time night shift (20:00-08:00) positions for my daughter. She is 9 yrs old and has trisomy 18. She is currently in fair health, but does have a tracheostomy and feeding tube which require supervision by a licensed nurse. This position is to work in the home caring for her so that her parents can work their full-time jobs. We can provide PPE as needed.

During a shift, the nurse is expected to be on-time to all shifts, attentive, administer medications, administer breathing treatments, monitor oxygen saturation, and monitor feedings. Additionally, day shift is responsible for some light housework (e.g., laundry that has been soiled by my daughter), taking delivery and organizing supplies. Importantly for day shift, I need a nurse interested in engaging in her therapies and willing to learn some education instruction to perform when special education teachers and therapists are not available. We can train nurses in her care so don't let her accessories scare you away!

We have an opening for part-time day shift (08:00-18:00) and part- or full-time night shift (up to 4 shifts a week available from 20:00-08:00). It is critical that anyone applying understand we generally have no alternative coverage if they call-out; we need people who are reliable (i.e., don't call out of shifts) and prompt.

Pay for this position is commensurate with education and experience, and highly competitive.

This job will require that the applicant:

  • Have a nursing license in good standing within the state of AL
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Has current BLS/CPR Training
  • Has or is willing to obtain a clean TB skin test
  • All vaccinations need to be up to date, including flu vaccine
  • Have good mobility and the ability to lift my daughter (~45 lbs)

We have two full-time, one part-time and several PRN nurses. They all love working with my daughter and in our home. We are looking for new caregivers who can become part of our team for this unique little girl. We offer training to any new hires and make sure they are comfortable with her equipment and with her.

Please reach out if this is a job that you are interested in. I would request a resume and references for any potential applicant. A cover letter detailing relevant experience and why this position is of interest would be appreciated. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE NOT A LICENSED NURSE.
