Under the clinical direction of a radiologist and general supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging Center Manager and Technical Director performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. Performs other related duties with the job classification or organizations as necessary or as assigned by the CEO, COO or CFO.

Requirements

  • Receives and follows directives and instructions from radiologists, diagnostic imaging center manager or designee, and technical director to properly perform the position’s functions.
  • Address all patients, staff and visitors in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Operates radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment and assist physicians/radiologists as appropriate in accordance with Florida Administrative Code (64E) and established organizational policy.
  • Calculates and selects proper technical factors such as voltage, current, exposure time, focal distance, etc., based on information as patient age, physical condition and suspected pathology.
  • Schedules patient examinations according to physician’s orders as directed.
  • Explains proper preparation to patients prior to procedure. Verifies appropriate RX or VO to exam ordered per patient history or diagnosis. Ensures routine exams are properly completed and accurate information such as patient demographics, account (Medical record) number, date of exam, date of birth, address, referring physician name, referring physician address and correct CPT code for exam ordered. Obtain patient signature and technologist initials on router and history form. VERIFY 2 TO BE TRUE.
  • Provides personal, patient, and patient’s family/visitor and assisting staff protection in accordance with prescribed radiation and equipment safety standards and policies/procedures/protocols.
  • Develops mammography films and related dark room duties, in addition to understanding the CR system and equipment.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must possess current State of Florida certification as a Basic X-Ray Machine Operator to practice medical radiography.
  • Must have completed the required hours of continuing education certification or annual period, to satisfy State of Florida requirements
  • CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
