Radias Health is Hiring an Overnight Mental Health Counselor Near Paul, MN

** $2,000 Sign-on Bonus after 6 months of full-time employment **

Interested in working in a residential setting?RADIAS Health has full-time awake overnight positions (30-35 hours per week) available in the Residential Support Services program, working in group homes with 4 adults with serious and persistent mental illness and substance use. 
Daily client-related responsibilities include spending time interacting with clients to develop and build rapport, assisting clients with building independent living skills such as hygiene checks, housekeeping, and budgeting, administering medications, and transporting clients to appointment and recreational activities in the community. 
Administrative duties include implementing treatment plans, documenting behaviors, utilizing crisis assessment tools for suicidal and aggressive behaviors, ensuring security of the facility, developing weekly menus and preparing meals, and completing paperwork and charting as needed.
We have 15 locations within Anoka, Dakota, Ramsey, and Washington counties. 

Potential work schedules are

  • Sundays - Wednesdays 11:45pm - 8:30am or 
  • Thursdays - Saturdays 10:30pm - 8:30am 

Purpose
To provide professional, quality program services to the persons served by the RSS Team. Monitors the assessment and treatment goals and follow-up care for each person served. Participates as a team member on the treatment team, provides assessments for crisis and intervenes appropriately.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of Serious and Persistent Mental Illness 

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or related field. 
  • Experience in a group home environment. 

Essential Functions

  • Monitor clients regularly as stipulated in each client’s Individual Service Plan.
  • Provide input in staff meetings and treatment planning.
  • Identify individuals prone to having behavior emergencies and recommends additional programming appropriate for their needs.
  • Help defuse and de-escalate any potential behavior emergencies.
  • Receive crisis calls from clients.
  • Administer medications according to AFC policy and procedures under the supervision of the facility’s nurse.
  • Inform other staff and Lead Mental Health Counselor when quantity of client’s medications running low.
  • Utilize crisis assessment tools for suicidal and aggressive behavior.
  • Assist clients in independent living skills; hygiene checks, housekeeping, budgeting, etc.
  • Encourage and monitor treatment plan compliance.
  • Responsible for knowledge and implementation of service and behavior plans.
  • Assist residents with their room cleaning, personal hygiene and laundry.
  • Prepare meals, serve and clean up according to Health Department standards.
  • Responsible for providing staff coverage and ensuring the security of the facility and general supervision of residents.
  • Assist in training new staff.
  • Answer staff telephone.
  • Read and respond to company e-mails during every shift.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Update medication sheets when medication changes occur.
  • Responsible for securing coverage of any missed shifts, planned or unplanned.
  • Participate in routine cleaning duties.
  • Perform light house maintenance or request maintenance assistance as needed.
  • Remain current on client’s plans and case notes completed by other staff.
  • Must be able to transport clients in the community.
  • Complete all paperwork, reports, and charting contemporaneously and in an organized manner. 
  • Participate actively in on-going professional growth and development; maintain appropriate professional behavior and participate in appropriate supervision.
  • Maintain a pattern of regular work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CEU Requirements

  • 24 Continuing Education (CEU) Credits per year (per state statute).

Competencies

  • Knowledge of symptoms and course of serious and persistent mental illness as well as medications and other therapies used to treat mental illness.
  • Have knowledge of, or be willing to gain knowledge of within first 6 months about and utilize various substance abuse treatment modalities such as harm reduction and motivational interviewing. 
  • Have knowledge of, or be willing to gain knowledge of within first 6 months of evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Have demonstrable working knowledge of Vulnerable Adults Laws and other pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques, independent living skills/teaching and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Minnesota Statutes or rules, including but not limited to DHS Rule 203, MS253B, Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults, Duty to Warn, Minnesota Data Practices Act, HIPAA.
  • Develop appropriate therapeutic relationship with clients.
  • Be familiar with the duties specific to each shift at the house. 
  • Able to use a computer for word-processing and data base management.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and be part of an interdisciplinary team. 
  • Be able to speak, clearly understand and write the English language.
  • Must have a car, MN driver’s license and be able to drive, day or evening hours.
  • Be able to accommodate flexible working hours.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Type frequently.
  • Drive sometimes.
  • Sit frequently.
  • Stand for long periods of time. 
  • Walking often.
  • Climb flights of stairs.
  • Carrying cleaning products up and down stairways.
  • Able to lift, pull, push, grasp and bend while lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive motions for an extended duration of time are required.

Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional residential environment. Occasionally exposed to a variety of different work conditions including but not limited to, being outdoors during inclement weather, construction sites, exposure to excessive temperatures hot/cold.
