What You’ll do:

The primary responsibilities of OSP Splice Tech 2 will be to splice fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings.

• The technician will specialize in splicing and terminating fiber optic cables. They also troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems
• Perform maintenance and repair work, examine lines, and use electrical equipment to test for damage. They may troubleshoot a line to locate a fault and splice in new line to replace damaged cable
• Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to slack storage and securing
• Read and follow design engineer’s instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures
• Prepare engineering field notes / as builds and splicing sheets. Interpret buried underground and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field with clarity and detail
• This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off hours
• Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, excavators, and trencher
• Ability to climb poles up to 40 feet, work in a bucket truck, and work with 32’ plus ladder
• Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance

What You’ll Bring:

• Splice tech 1 or 2 years of experience
• Knowledge of how to fusion splice both loose tube and ribbon fiber optic cables. Know how to place a mid-sheath splice
• Knowledge of fiber optic test equipment such as OTDR and power meter
• Ability to safely utilize bucket trucks, access manholes and hand holes. Use ladders to access various installation and construction points as required
• A valid, unrestricted driver’s license (Commercial driver’s license preferred but not required)
• Exceptional organizational and planning skills, with meticulous attention to detail, proactive, collaborative, and flexible mindset is essential
• High school diploma or GED required
• Ability to work to project completion, against aggressive deadlines

Work Environment:Daily driving is expected. OSP Techs spends time in a vehicle.

Physical Demands:The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to drive a vehicle.
