Raba Kistner is seeking a dependable Senior Project Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in the Austin or San Antonio, TX area. Under general direction, responsible for project operations, as determined by the size and nature of the project, including construction inspection and material testing operations to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, and specifications for State (TxDOT) and local governmental agencies (City and County). Other responsibilities include:

  • Interpret, organize, coordinate and execute major technical engineering assignments and reports results to management.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment regarding interpretation of plans and specifications, quality acceptance, construction inspection and materials sampling and testing.
  • Plan schedule and coordinate construction inspection activities and material testing operations.
  • Utilizes engineering judgement in resolution of non-conforming items of work.
  • Assigns, coordinates, and oversees project activities as well as teams depending on the project.
  • Oversees construction inspection procedures and provides direction where necessary. 
  • Meets with contractor's supervisors or other project leaders to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials; or construction procedures to verify compliance with the approved plans, specifications, and shop/working drawings.
  • Implement and oversee compliance with administrative and business operation activities including human resources, training programs, inventory, safety and budget monitoring.
  • Review and recommend approval of applications for payment.
  • Oversee project record management operations.
  • Review plans, specifications, and shop/working drawings to determine required project activities.
  • Perform Project Walk Through and Competency Testing.
  • Continually review established procedures and implement preventive and corrective actions when necessary to enhance operational performance and project management.
  • Responsibilities as contained within the RKI Quality Management System.
  • Safe usage and maintenance of company vehicle, tools and field equipment.
  • Carry out assigned duties in accordance with established procedures. 
  • Meet directed priorities and deadlines. 
  • Maintenance of license and/or certifications at the time of employment or obtained during employment.
  • Submittal of accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing and/or inspection reports on a daily basis in accordance with project Quality Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • P.E. License in applicable state, or if out of state must obtain P.E. license in applicable state within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have fifteen (15) years progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering with ten (10) years’ experience in construction management and engineering.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements.

Extensive knowledge of: Engineering principles, practices, and methods. Engineering fundamentals. Engineering calculations. Thorough knowledge of: Materials used in highway construction. Highway construction plans, construction inspection procedures, and specifications. Material testing methods, processes and procedures. Considerable knowledge of: Construction management procedures. Personal computers and the use of applicable software. The State specific Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices or National Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices approved by the Federal Highway Administrator as the National Standard. Good oral and written communications skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel. Intermediate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.

Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, utilize hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks. Continuously required to talk or hear, taste or smell. Occasionally required to lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (metal can manufacturing department, large equipment, etc.).

Potential exposure to frequently work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. May occasional work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work responsibilities may require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices and project locations.
