Spend Matters, a leading procurement technology intelligence company, is seeking a full-time, entrepreneurial Controller to oversee all finances. You will be the only fully focused financial hire, reporting directly to the CEO and the President, supporting the financial operations of our rapidly growing SaaS-based market intelligence business.

Your primary role will be preparing and analyzing financial reports, managing AR and AP, and ensuring all accounting tasks are performed correctly and according to GAAP. You will provide financial reporting and modeling as needed to (proactively) inform the strategic growth and financial decisions of the executive team. This position requires thorough competency in QuickBooks.

Key Duties

• Preparation of reports to investors (Private Equity equity and Debt)
  • Including but not limited to Monthly Financial Summaries, Monthly Business Updates, Covenant Compliance Documentation, and Covenant Forecasting
• Prepare Quarterly Financial Overview for Board of Directors Meetings
• Interface with outside accounting firm and PE Investors
• Lead annual Financial Audit of Spend Matters, supported by a third-party audit firm
• Work with sales teams to develop forecasting models for revenue and pipeline
• Manage all accounting operations including Billing, AR, AP, G/L, international subsidiaries, Cash Management, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition
  • Secure timely payments (effectively manage DPO)
• Prepare budget and financial forecasts and report variances
• Work with President and Chief Strategy Officer on pricing strategy and modeling
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
• Ability to automate accounting tasks and procedures
• Manage external PEO, (International) Accounting and Global EOR service companies (incl. commissions calculation, employee on- and offboarding)
• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
• Support month-end and year-end close process
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Additional Controller duties as necessary
• Manage light office administration duties relating to procurement (i.e. software licensing agreements)

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• 5 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience 
• Saas/Technology company experience preferred
• CPA and prior Public Accounting experience preferred
• Experience with creating financial statements, budgets, forecasts
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Proficiency with computerized ledger systems, notably Quickbooks Online
• Strong excel skills
• In-depth understanding of financial accounting statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Ability to interact with all levels of management
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Time management, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• High-integrity team player with a strong work ethic
• Self-starter; work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work with and provide discretion in handling confidential information
