R.M. Palmer Company, LLC designs, produces, packages, and ships seasonal chocolate novelties. Its products include filled chocolates, solid chocolates, chocolate bars and balls, chocolate cups and coins, chocolate patties, and seasonal products. In addition to their own branded products, the Company co-manufactures both seasonal and everyday products for other large branded companies. Today, the Company operates out of two manufacturing facilities and one distribution facility with ~600 full-time employees. R.M. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Controller to join our team. The Plant Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our manufacturing operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting and analysis. Key areas of focus will include budgeting, financial analysis, managing the monthly close process, financial reporting, and helping to drive plant productivity. This role is pivotal in building business partnerships with supply chain leadership, supporting operational decision-making, and driving profitability within operations. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer, and indirectly to the Plant Manager.
· This role will report and present the manufacturing operation's financial results, risks, and opportunities to key stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner.
· Lead month-end and year-end close processes for plant & distribution locations (including cost accounting & inventory control), including preparation of financial statements and reconciliations for supply chain operations.
· Performs detailed analysis on inventory costs to assist in the development of annual standard costs and understanding monthly inventory variances (including the monthly calculation of manufacturing variance capitalization).
· Maintaining the fixed asset system and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of records and monthly depreciation entries.
· Monitor and analyze plant performance metrics to provide thought leadership and insight on achievement of plant key performance metrics (with a strong focus on cost reduction and improved operating efficiencies).
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams (plant operations, procurement, logistics) to optimize plant operations and drive cost efficiencies.
· Partners closely with the Controller to monitor key financial performance indicators.
· Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analysis reports.
· Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
· Conduct financial risk assessments and implement internal controls to mitigate risks.
· Support capital investment decisions by providing financial analysis and ROI / IRR evaluations.
· Participate in strategic planning and decision-making discussions at the plant level.
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA, MBA, or CMA certification preferred.
· Minimum of 6 years of experience in Finance and Accounting management is required.
· Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations, cost accounting, product costing, and systems is required.
· Familiarity with a variety of accounting principles, concepts, practices, procedures, and US GAAP is required.
· Experience in preparing financial statements, analysis, and monthly close process is required.
· Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced MS Excel skills is required; prior experience with AS400 & JD Edwards is preferred.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
· Must be a self-motivated, proactive individual who can handle working in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
· Proven leadership and managerial experience, with a track record of driving results.
