Job Description: Canine Technician III – (CT- III) Team Lead

Job Title: Canine Technician - III (CT- III) Team Lead

Position Type: Non-Exempt; Full-Time

Location: QK - Quinebaug Kennels, Canterbury, CT

Travel Required: None

Salary: starting at $20.00/hour

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Canine Technician III (CT-III) is a Team Leader. The CT-III is expected to provide kennel cleaning and maintenance and daily care for boarding dogs, maintain QK behavioral and manners standards for all boarding and training dogs, and make appropriate judgment calls to support the health and wellbeing of all boarding and training dogs. In addition, the CT-III is responsible for checking the quality of work performed by Canine Technicians I and II during their shift and delegating work assignments and responsibilities to the Canine Technician staff to ensure that shifts run as efficiently as possible. The CT-III needs to communicate clearly and effectively with the staff, mentor/train staff as needed, handle the more challenging dogs, and make sure all tasks are completed each shift.

Prerequisites:

  • 3 years’ experience working at QK with progressive responsibilites or the equivalent; provided that QK may waive this prerequisite for an employee who has demonstrated exemplary performance as a CT-II.
  • History of reliability, excellent leadership skills, and taking initiatives.

  • Must be devoted to the care and safety of all dogs under QK care.

  • Available to work weekdays, weekends, and HOLIDAYS when required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Acceptance and respect for a variety of training tools used for obedience and gun dog training.
  • Compassion: Canine Technician III (CT-III) must be kind and caring when dealing with animals, owners, and staff
  • Interpersonal skills: Canine Technician III (CT-III) must interact with owners as they drop off and pick up their pets and maintain a positive, professional relationship with kennel staff and management.
  • Physical stamina: This position requires long hours of standing as well as the ability to crawl, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Trustworthiness: Canine Technician III (CT-III) must demonstrate that they can be trusted to care for other peoples' animals as well as maintain the confidentiality of customers, co-workers, and their team.

Job Responsibilities include all CT-II:

  • Adherence to all QK campus facility policies, guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Sanitation of indoor and outdoor kennel runs, crates, facility equipment, and any dog housing, training, boarding, grooming, veterinary, or any other general facility areas.
  • Waste pickup throughout the campus grounds.
  • Preparation of meals for each dog.
  • Feeding and administration of medication and treatments.
  • Daily performance of proper wellness checks.
  • Monitoring of any abnormal medical or behavioral issues.
  • Monitoring of food supply of boarding dogs.
  • Application of bark control techniques/options to maintain a calm quiet kennel.
  • Perform weekly weights and monitor for changes in dog’s weights.
  • Exercising dogs in yards for individual or group play.
  • Exercising dogs on land treadmill (as needed).
  • Proper use of Wonder Lead.
  • Proper ATVing of appropriate dogs.
  • Proper use of our Petexec software for documentation and maintenance of client and pet records.
  • Proper documentation and record keeping of all cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Properly intaking client dogs upon arrival which may include some client education on things like feeding regime, health, nail care, etc.
  • Administering basic baths for dogs as needed.
  • Attendance at staff group and individual meetings and trainings.
  • Professional interaction with clients and colleagues. Proper communication with peers as well as leadership team.
  • Assistance with additional activities under the supervision of a leadership staff member or trainer.
  • Demonstration of QK behavioral and manners standards for all boarding and training dogs.
  • Proper execution of Vita Plena program for Boarding dogs and Daily dogs.

Additional CT-III responsibilities, but not limited to the following:

  • Assure all incoming dogs nails are XXX on arrival day or within 24 hours. Perform or assign to CT-II staff member.
  • Enforcement of kennel policies and procedures.
  • Supervision of kennel care workers.
  • Delegates work appropriately so shifts run as efficiently as possible.
  • Ability to cover a front desk shift.
  • Assigning placement of all dogs on campus in runs and yards to ensure safety.
  • Execution of staff training based on standard SOPs.
  • Creating work schedules including reassigning shifts when a staff member calls out.

The foregoing list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive. The Canine Technician III (CT-III) Team Lead is expected to perform all other duties as assigned.
